Winter Report from Roy Lake

Ice is running 18-20 inches thick and is of pretty good quality. Snow is running 6-8” with some drifting. There are heaves on the lakes so watch for them and drive around rather than over. On some lakes access can be difficult.

Pan fishing has been pretty decent…. Mostly crappies with an occasional blue gill. Perch bite has been slow. Walleye bite is fair to good. I have seen some nice pails of walleye and Northern, a decent number in the 3-4 lb. range.

Remember: Ice is always “never safe.”

We have 48 lakes 5-20 minutes from the resort. Walleye bite is generally a morning or evening bite. Crappie is primarily evening or low light days. So far Perch has been on the slow side. Last year perch fishing was really hot but it has not taken off yet.

If you have any questions, please e-mail me and I will get back to you same day. Gary and Scott are guiding and the pictures attached are from this month.

Enjoy and have a Happy New Year!
