Elwood Reservoir Nebraska Walleye Fishing Report

Made it out a little bit recently, so this will be a shorter report, but still a decent one, nonetheless. Hit Elwood for some walleye action as it’s about as close to prime time over there right now as you can get. I trolled them up earlier in the year, but it was quickly apparent that wasn’t going to work this time around. I managed two whites on cranks, but that was it. Decided to fish the windier, main points, and that was the ticket. Using jig/leeches, I pulled in 14 walleyes, with this nice, healthy 22 1/2 incher the biggest. He went back, as all eyes 18-24" go back on this lake.

They were picking up the jigs, and when I felt them, I just let them have it for about 2 seconds. Then I crossed their eyes, and it seemed to work well. I only lost a couple doing this in various places. Also caught a small wiper doing this.

We also hit the canal for some flathead action around the same time and managed this nice 11lb flatty, as well as this 20" sauger. It was pretty wild catching a sauger as he went after a bullhead that was 5-6" long! Been a long time since I caught a saug/walleye while flathead fishing, but it does happen from time to time.

That’s all for now, hope to see you on the water soon.

  1. Good job Brian! You got to love those multi-species days on the water!

  2. Thanks guys! Ya, these multi-species days are a lot of fun this time of year, no doubt.

The water quit coming into Elwood a week ago today I’m told. Still down quite a bit, but at least it’s up on the concrete ramp a few feet, but not sure how far. You really gotta watch your wheels if you’re going to use that ramp.

I think all in all, it came up around 15 feet or so. It’s made a big difference at Elwood, and it would be great to get more, but I’ll be grateful for what we got for now.

Keep the water comin from out west….we still got places to put it.
