Pool 16

On Sunday (Fathers Day ) I had the pleasure of sharing the day with my son trolling pool 16 for walleyes, and although the fishing was not fast and furious we were able to catch a bunch of nice eaters before coming back for a cookout in the afternoon. We were trolling our short lines at about 100" and the long lines at about 150′ using 6lb diam braid and pulling #5 and #7 shad raps, between 1.5 and 2.0 mph it didn’t seem to matter what color you used as long as it was orange. Most of the fish Sunday were eaters with the one in the picture being a average fish.

Monday evening we decided to give it a couple hours after Todd got off work ,and we got on the water about 7:00 after a hard rain shower, Like the day before we were catching walleyes but most were small, after about a hour of fishing the wind came up and the river got ugly so we started downstream toward the dock , We were in Todds 17′ War Eagle, and although it brought us back safe and sound I am re thinking my position that windshields are for sissy’s. By the time we got back it had let up and we decided to make one more pass before going home, We were rewarded with this nice 23" slot fish.

On Tuesday I fished a different section of the river with more or less the same setup and took about 9 fish in three hours, The best baits for us this week have been a #7 jointed shadrap in Red craw and wally divers in orange.

Most of the fish were taken from rocky shorelines and the end of wingdams in 10 to 12 fow. Although with the falling water the trolling bite is not what it was a couple weeks ago, you can still get a respectable catch so park the lawnmower and go fishin Good Luck!
