Mid season sodak update

With February half over and march knocking in the door the fishing is starting to heat up. The walleye bite has been good during peak hours of 7 am to 9am as well as 5pm to sunset. Walleyes have been on shallow flats and points anywhere from 5 to 8 foot if water making for some fun fast aggressive fish. Some if these fish come in so fast you see a flicker on the marcum and they are hooked up. VMC rattle spoons with a minnow head on the business end.

Perch continue to be caught in a few lakes as well as sloughs . Limits are hard earned with the cold weather we have been experiencing. I gave been trying to set up on shallower water earlier in the day and progressively move deeper as the day goes on. Perch have been in loose schools and traveling in twos and threes right now . Not seeing the big packs that hopefully match will bring yet but will still enough to keep everyone happy. Perch are being taken on VMC rattle spoons and tinglers in red and uv perch. More finicky fish are biting on pug bugs with a few spikes.

Hopefully everyone can find some time to make it out and get on some fish. I will be fishing must available days and with some warming temps fishing should get better and more consistent. Look for the perch bite to get hot and heavy as match approaches. If your planning on coming out for the GTG look got updates on where we will be fishing and I’ll make sure to drop my cell number in the reply as well. Good luck if your headed out, -QB

  1. QB !!!

I can’t believe that this winter is almost over already !!! I know it’s been a cold one, but they always go by quickly…

With all the ice we have in the midwest, I’m guessing we should be on the ice well into March this year…

How late into the year do you usually stay on the ice out there?

Thanks for the report and Great Job on the IDO Show with James on Sunday !!! I can’t wait to get back on the ice !!!

  2. It can vary wildy out here. Right now I just put the extension on the auger and we have spotty snow cover. With late season heat and a lot of wind it can go fast. Last year freakish may 1 ice out, 2012 I was on my favorite walleye hole on march 25th with the boat. I would guess this year looking at extended forcasts and ice/snow cover we should be able to fish on the ice till mid april. Things can change fast, – QB

  3. geez a card table!!! Did you wear the old cleaning table out? Looking forward to when the beer doesn’t freeze before you get to the bottom!
