Door County Walleye and Smallmouth Action

Well with being out on the water on a daily basis I am going to try to cram a couple of fishing reports into one here catching up on the past couple of Walleye trips along with a couple of red hot Smallmouth trips. Wednesday night we received a cold front which brought a nasty storm with it containing lots of lightning and thunder not to mention very strong winds.

This made for very difficult fishing on Thursday chasing the Walleyes out of the areas that they were set up on and feeding and they got severe lock jaw and we were only able to catch one 29 inch walleye that day.Friday brought a little change in the action while the morning was rather slow the fish began to come alive in the afternoon while we got more bites that day they were very lite bites just nipping the Rapala Husky Jerks and Tail Dancers by the rear hook and we were able to put some quality Walleyes in the boat with help from some very sharp VMC hooks.

On Wednesday before the front moved through we were fishing for Smallmouth Bass and the fish were on fire in the shallow water. We caught lots of real quality bass that day throwing Trigger X tubes in the colors of Green pumpkin and also Smoke with red flake. After noticing Crawfish in the throats of some of the bass I had switched to a pumpkin colored tube and it made a big difference for a while until they went nuts and just ate everything we threw at them.

The water temps had cooled a bit on Thursday and Friday with the north winds and cooler nights but yesterday the weather switched out of the south bringing warmer weather and warming the water and the bass cooperated very well again yesterday afternoon catching lots of fish including a fish just under 6lbs using the same Trigger x tubes on 1/8th oz VMC tube jigs.
