Lake Mendota smallie report june 11th 2013.

I headed down to Lake Mendota for a morning fishing trip with new clients Tim and Mike to do some chasing of the great smallie fishing that is in this lake. Its a lot of fun fishing when you can see the capital in most areas that we fished today.

We set out to a point in about 10 feet of water for the first spot to do some slip- bobbering for the smallie . The bait of choice for the day would be leeches on different colored hooks today, The first spot we tried was slow with only 2 hits in about a half hour of fishing. So off to the second area to check it out. Has we motored up to the gps location on hds lowrance , we spotted a big school of smallies next to the boat in about 9 feet of water. Thats a good sign that they must still be spawnig yet in this location, The water temp was 7 degrees warmer in the second location then the first spot. We got the anchor down and got 4 poles out with the bobbers and it did not take long before Tim had the firts nice smallie on and dandy 17 incher to start out the day.

We had some fast action during the morning trip as long as we had some ripples on the surface to block out the light penatration in this clear water , you could see the fish swimming in over 10 feet of water today. The guys were amazed how the fish would turn off everytime when the slight breexe would die down and then the bite would turn on again with the wind increasing during the time out fishing. We even got a ten inch perch as well.

Over all the guys had a great time and Mike got 2 of his biggest smallie in his life he said, he had 2 19 inchers toiday. Great day fishing with two great guys for sure.
