Green Bay Walleye/ Smallmouth Action

Well I can not speak highly of warmer weather with the past couple of days cool down along with cool temps forecasted for the next couple of days but we had a warming trend which really had the fishing going strong for both Walleyes and Smallmouth Bass.

The Smallmouth Bass fishing has been going very good in shallow water and in deeper water depending on our location. In some waters that have had much warmer water temperatures fish have really moved shallow and have become very active responding to many different soft plastic presentations along with suspending jerk baits such as the Rapala X-Rap in the color of white. In other locations with deeper water close by water temps are still not quite to the mid 50 degree range and fish are still hanging in deeper depths around 18 to 22 FOW. When fishing these fish I have been having good success using the Rapala Rippin Rap in the #6 size.

Walleye fishing around the Bay has really been heating up with fish going strong in many locations around the central Bay along with many locations around the lower Bay of Green Bay. Fisherman have great opportunities at catching Walleyes by both casting and trolling for fish. We have been catching fish by casting soft plastics along with Rapala Rippin Raps and B-Fishin Blade Baits.

Many fish have also been being caught trolling crankbaits along with Crawler harnesses. Fish have been being caught both shallow and deeper water using both presentations. Being one who would rather use crankbaits over Harnesses I have been having great success using both Rapala Shad Raps along with the new Storm Smash Shads. We will be back on the water tomorrow and will keep things posted.

  1. Paul

IT is hard for me to get a feel for the size of that smallie because of the way it is being held. The one thing I’m sure of is it really-really BIG! Did you get a length or weight on that thing? Inquiring minds…!

  2. No doubt James.. those are some great Big FISH !!!

I will be making it over your way the end of the month Paul.. I’ll meet up and buy you a cold one !!!

    See you next week

  3. Sorry for the delay in getting back. The fish was not weighed but if I remember correctly that fish was 21 1/2 inches and very girthy.
