Door County Ice Fishing Report

Well with recent rains melting 10 inches of snow followed by freezing temps we have made another four inches of ice on top of two feet of solid hard ice this past week. With this weeks forecast showing a shot of reinforcing cold air with temps dropping into the single digits we will certainly be having ice into April.

We have been having a difficult time with catching good numbers of Walleyes along with inconcistent action with Northern Pike. I am quite sure as we get into the up and coming weeks with some warmer weather along with some melting and some run off we will begin to see the action for these species pick up with a real good chance at catching true trophy fish.

We have been continuing to have fantastic success catching large numbers of Whitefish with limit catches happening daily. Most of our catches have been coming from 50 to 65 FOW and we have been catching most of our fish using #3 jigging Rapalas along with using gold spoons.

We have had schools of fish that have been so thick sometimes when we put the Marcum Cameras down we cant see anything but fish swarming around the cameras. We have not used bait for these fish in over a month and as a matter of fact we have been removing the treble hook off the jigging Raps and catching big numbers of fish most days catching more than those who are tipping lures with bait.
