    Hi,

my city water tested at about 13.5 hardness and 1.55 chloramine

    I have a 5B, 4.5 bath – 3 adults and 2 kids

got quotes on kinetico dual nonelectric (10yr warranty) vs single tank electric (5yr warranty)

    Dual tank + whole house hollow carbon filter + sediment filter + RO system = 4499 + 1499 + 399 + 399 + 150 (supplies) = $6946

Single tank system would $1500 less

    OR

should I go with a Clack WS and RO by local plumber for $3900

10×54 Clack WS1 Water Softener Control Valve

1.5 Cubic Feet of 8% Crosslink Media

    1″ Sweat Bypass

    KDF MediaGuard

    11×11 Square Brine Tank

    RO system

Kinetico comes with warranty and whole house hollow carbon filter (do I need it?) … apparently removes chloramine and chlorine and helps skin and hair.

are these reasonable prices? Sounds like you spend more with kinetico but get more as well.

    thanks

Typical water softener will handle the hardness but does nothing for Chlorine removal. Chlorine removal is nice but you pay for it. Just like Kenitico. It’s nice stuff but you pay top price for it.

That not to bad a price on a clack and drinking water system. Ask that plumber about adding a carbon filter to remove Chlorine. I believe clack has them.

    What city are you in?

    Hey Culligan Man!!!!!!!

I owned my water softener for many years and now I went back to Culligan and rent it including the RO system. They come to my house fill with salt, replace filters and do any maintenance and continually check to make sure its working correctly or make adjustments if needed.

I bought a Kentico 35 years ago and actually moved it to 3 different houses over the years. Yep, they cost to buy, but over the years it has paid off. When I moved into my current house 15 years ago, it already had a Kentico in along with the drinking water system. I still love them. I think the cost savings in salt allow has more than paid off the system. It only operates when it needs to NOT based on a timer that goes off no matter how much water you have used. Also no electricity so cost savings there. I think they are worth it

I put a Clack millennium series system in myself, very easy to do if you have some basic plumbing skills, The plumbing supply company even walked me through the programming according to the hardness of the water and amount of water used by my family, it measures the gallons of water used and then regenerates at night accordingly, extremely efficient, water is perfect, Kinetico is a good system but it’s way way over priced, educate yourself on how a softener system works and you’ll see, The kinetico salesman gets at least half of the cost that you pay, ridiculous…

I would find a Plumber that can get a Fleck 9100 SXT duel tank or a 5600 series, way more cost effective then the other 2.

Most newer softeners are based off of water usage.
