Went for Blue gills today. The bite was very slow, used many jigs and spoons. Found a small black diamond jig worked well with wax worms. Still very finicky fish. Started out in 20′ moved around a lot found some thick green weeds in 7-8′ of water and sight fished or would not have gotten much light bite. Tied on this thing dont know the name of it. The gills liked it and the bite got better. could only use a small piece of worm or the fish would not take it with out a piece of worm the gills would only look. Fished the Cormorant area today. Caught a lot of fish from 12pm and 2pm but had to work for them. Kepth a few small ones for dinner.

I THINK that jig is made by northland, I remember seeing one similar on their page a while back. Good job on the gill whackin’.

Looks like a Lindy Slick Jig to me, but maybe not. Northland probably has something similar.

    Nice catch!

    That’s lindy’s for sure.
I have some of the small ones but haven’t tried them yet. Been on a pretty solid tungsten/euro bite for sunfish. If it starts getting slow, i’ll pull out one of those jigs to see if it turns them on…In the last week the best fishing was 65 sunnies in 3 hours and the worst was 17 in 2 hours..So it hasn’t been all too bad…But i’ll be giving that lure a try.

Late ice last year I had one of JRs jalepenos (same shape but tungsten, it’s hard to go away from tungsten once you’ve gotten used to it) on and never had to take it off for gills, of course that’s late ice. So far this year chekais and toads have been my go-to’s for gills and pies.

I caught about 10 gills yesterday before i switched to the chart slick jig in the smallest size just because of this thread. I ended the day with 43 gills

    Bout 3 hrs of fishing.

Biggest two @ 9.5″ and several over 9″

Ya just never know. The hand size gill was one of the larger ones. Fun though.

Won’t be too long and we can forget these sunfish and toss out some cut bait!
