I’ve been looking into buying a 1 man shelter. One of the keys to the shelter is that it has to function as windbreak more often than a shelter. I’m looking for one that has enough room to hold all my gear. I’m fairly tall so a shelter that flips over at a fairly high angle would be great. I checked out a frabill one man and i was too tall when the shelter came over i had to bend over alot. I’m really interrested in the shappell rover 1.0 or 1.5. Any input or advice would be appreciated. I suppose i could buy a few st. criox shorties to use on those cold days . thank you, dan

you might be interested in a canvas craft ultra wide, its actually really big for 1 person so it can fit 2, but it would make a really nice one person too, im picking mine up tommorow!

You going to be at the IDO GTG? I know Tom “BlueFleck” Donaldson will have a new Otter Pro 1 Man to demo. You might want to see if that house suits you if you make it.

I’ve went through a few one man shelters, and I’m pretty interested in the Otter version. One man shelters are very very nice in cold winters like we are experiencing. I would suggest a couple things; First off be sure that your shack has a zippered front. I have had 2 that didn’t, and once you get on a hot bite you typically would like to shove in, and get out for whatever reason. If it isn’t a zippered front you will always lose your seal to the ice everytime you get out of the house. Second off is if there is a way to connect the one man to your sled or atv via rigid towbar you will be very happy. Otherwise if you are looking go get away from the crowds you will be foot traffic only. Tends to limit you a bit vs. a shack that can be towed. I fastened most of my needed ice fishing gear to the sled itself. Scoop, small tackle box, small shovel… Pretty nice not having your gear broken and in a pile when you arrive to your destination. Lastly a dark colored house (Black, Dark Green, Purple) to catch some solar heat. Doesn’t take much in those little shacks. Oh a small 1lb propane tank and micro sized sunflower will heat you up in no time. I typically flip over and pull the flaps inside the shack so I can shovel in from the inside of the house. Less time outside is a good thing when it is freezing!! I’d be interested in taking a close look at the one man Otters!! If they are anything like the rest of the product line I’m sure it is very good quality!!

I can tell you the Clam X1 is probably not for you if you plan to drag it by hand. It’s meant for towing no doubt. The other 1 man Clams would be way too short I’m sure. I’m 6’1″ and can stand in it, but it’s not “roomy” by any means when it comes to head room. I really like if for all it’s other features.

I like my otter den, but I will be interested in the new 1 man otter pro…I had a Clam Pro, but that was a little small for me, I am 6-4 and 150 lbs.

Dan I would defenitly look at something bigger than a one man sure is nice having the extra room to spread things out when you figure buckets flasher and heater that takes alot of room plus you’ll always have the option if someone goes with ya and then can help pull.
