I AM WANTING TO LAUNCH IN THE TAYLORS FALLS AREA FISHING OUT OF A SLIGHTLY LARGER SKI STYLE BOAT SO THE QUALITY OF LAUNCH IS IMPORTANT. I LIVE IN SCANDIA SO I KNOW THE AREA FAIRLY WELL BUT ANY DETAILS ON WHERE TO LAUNCH,WHERE THE DAMS ARE AND MAYBE SOME FISHING TIPS FOR WALLEYE,SMALLIES,WHITE BASS OR ANYTHING WILLING TO BITE OUR LINES. I AM ENTERTAINING THE IN-LAWS FROM OUT OF TOWN SO ANY HELP WOULD BE GREATLY APPRECIATED! BY THE WAY, I AM FULL OF LARGE PAN-FISHING HOT SPOTS IN THE NORTH-EAST METRO! THANKS FOR THE HELP!

    Welcome to the site GPG33,

There is a launch in the MN side across from Ocseola, That would probably handle your boat. You might want to be careful running the river in that stretch. As far as fishing in that neck.. Not able to help out. I know that there are cats… at night. Never been day fishing in that stretch.

I’m sure someone will be able to assist in that area.

P.S. You can take your Caps lock off. Some people take that as yelling when typing messages.

I am not sure how easy of a time you will have launching at Ocseola there is no dock but no biggie the ground is not rocky but the depth is pretty shallow in that stretch. If you head north from the depth changes very fast and mostly shallow. It takes some time get anywhere so be ready to spend a bit of time traveling if you want to head very far from the launch. Good luck
    And welcome too!

I would recommend launching north of Taylors Falls above the dam if you got a larger boat. I’ve launched my Skeeter at Osceola and couldn’t do very much, although the water may be up right now after all the rain lately.

Above the dam, you can run WOT for about 8 miles up river. There’s lots of fishable water there, too. There is a launch on the MN side and the Wisconsin side. When you’re in Taylors Falls, go through the north end of town and turn right like you are going to Wild Mountain. The launch is about a mile up at a small park. Nice concrete launch but no dock.

    Good luck.

And also remember that from the Alcoa sandbar to the Taylors Falls dam, the river is no-wake. (not that the average numb-nuts from the first week of fishing pays attention to that….)

Aaron, thanks for the info.Just a couple of questions. So will the dam be north or south of the launch and have you ever fished this area between Taylors Falls and Osceola any suggestions on fishing methods? Thanks again for the help. Ill report back with results and hopefully photos.

The best launch by far is one in interstate park wis side. Follow the big paddle boat from TFalls down river with your gps on. now you have a trail, i think they turn around by peasly lake which is maybe 4 miles from tfalls. I would wacth my speed anytime from tf south if you dont know the river. DK

I would recommend to watch what you are doing following the paddle boat. She only drafts about 9″. I have hit bottom following it in my jon boat. If you have a bigger boat maybe stick to above the dam. Not sure of what water levels are like right now below it. Below the dam is best suited for a boat that can handle bumping off of things while learning your way around. Other wise wait until higher water.

So is the water much deeper above the dam,is there good fishing right near the dam and what is the best plan of attack for having a successful day of fishing? prefer wllleyes and smallies but action of any kind would be great.

Yes. The water is deeper above the dam. Try fishing 1/4 ounce jigs and crawlers. Let them sit on bottom. Try casting them. Maybe work them under a bobber. Lots of ways to fish a jig. Fat heads may be a good choice also. Bring extra tackle as its a river and you will most likely snag up. Look for rocks and current.
