What happens when a non-resident purchases land in Iowa how does the Deer Aplicactions work? I there a set limit on the amount of acres a person purchases to be considered a resident hunter? I always here about the draw liscenses do landowners get put in a drawing as well or is over the counter.

Thinking of purchasing land in Iowa. Buffalo County is too expensive and I have some there already.

If you buy land in Iowa and live in anouther state you still are a non resident. It dosent matter if you have 1 acre or 1000 acres. To become a resident you must reside in the state of Iowa for atleast 60 days, and poses a Iowa resident drivers license or I.D. card.

Thats what im thinking too, they won’t deny you a landowners tag if you own the land and i’ve heard as little as 30 days residency to get a liscense. About the out of state ownership i don’t know what they do there but you should be able to buy a landowners tag and they are at a reduced price. I know you can hold dual residency in both states so maybe thats the direction you have to go, taxes are alot cheaper here statewide. I messaged you back Jarrad

My sister and I own 80 acres in North Central Iowa where we grew up on. I’ve always lived in Iowa except for the Army but I’m not qualified to have a land owners tag. The Tenant can but beings I’m not actively involved in the farming operation or live there I’m ineligible. I believe theirs something like a 2 acre acreage that some one lives on is eligible though. Guess it doesn’t matter who pays the taxes in my case.

Haven’t hunted deer for a long time but for the heck of it I checked into getting a landowner’s permit for my 10 acres this past season and I find I can’t get one. I live right on it but there is no farming on it, and no government programs like crp or timber reserve, so I’m not able to get the free deer permit for my own land.

The law states that you have to garner some variety of revenue from the property in order to be eligible for landowner tags, I believe that the go to mode of verification is now the previous year’s tax return.
