Being an IT guy for a large company and having to deal with spyware on the regular, IMO, there is no good free spyware removal tool. Adaware and Spybot are by far the most popular, and do remove a lot, but spyware can get really tricky to remove 100%. We still run into cases at work that are so bad, the machines are all but lost and have to be re-imaged.(that’s a whole other story–lack of proper resources)…

I have a list at work though that breaks down the top spyware removal tools….I’ll see if I can find it and post it..

p.s..the best way to not get spyware is to stay off the bad sites!!!! Briank

I purchased McAfee antispyware 2005 from Wally-world for $20. The prog updates automatically (actually it prompts you first) ‘free’ for a year. It does automatic scanning of your computer or on-demand. When it finds compromising applications it will prompt you to leave them or remove/uninstall so it doesn’t remove the applications you want to keep automatically. So far I haven’t had any problems using it and I’ve had it since mid-summer.

I would like to know if there is software that will seek and destroy malicious downloaders that come with other programs a user has installed. Lately my antivirus software has been finding and removing 2+ trojans daily. I looked in my program logs and traced it to November 9th. I removed any software that I knew might have caused it that I or Jenn (my sig. other) installed that day but the damage is already done. I’m not worried because my buddy Norton takes care of it daily. Sure would feel better if the virus-removal messages would stop though!

    go to google.com

    do a search on lavasoft

then go and click on the lavasoftusa.com

    then click on ad-ware personal

then click on download tab on the right

then scroll down and you have a list of diferent ad ware and spy ware accounts that you can download for free.

if you have any questions shoot me a pm

Hire a professional and then install sp2. From there stay off the porn sites.

I have and use 2, they have done everything I’ve ever needed. Spybot and Ad-aware. although tech tv suggest people addd spy blaster to their computers in addition to those two, they said it’s very good at keep spyware off in the first place.

I second Ad-aware and Spybot. Get them from downloads.com. And make sure you get the updates before you run these programs each time. All are free
