Rudolph’s BBQ Sauce rant

the company that puts out rudolph’s bbq sauce has changed the size of the bottles, they went from a 19.5oz to a 15oz size. i use more rudy’s than ketchup in a month, so this change affects me because i have to buy 10.5oz more sauce to cover the 4.5oz change. the restraunt has nothing to do with the company that sells the bottled sauce. i know that all companys are changing their packaging nowadays to gain a bigger profit margin. you can put less product in a box or bag and charge the same price and not many people will notice, but this bottle size change was big to me, and has me pissed off for some reason. i am done with my rant now

About all a guy can do is pay attention and stay on the look out for this kind of maneuver. As you said, happens all the time.

Would you have been happier with a 20% price increase?

i sent off a email last week to the company that runs the restraunt, they got back to me and said that they fowarded my email to the company that sells the sauce. they did get back to me and i let them know what was on my mind about this change. it made me feel better, but i know that they won’t put out the bigger bottles just because i want them to

No different than charcoal. Remember when a bag of charcoal was 20 pounds, then down to 18 pounds, now 16 pounds but still the same price. Just a way for the company to make margins and keep the price the same.

Funny how sauce can “P” a guy off. My [censored] is with Menards. Set aside the nonsense that a lumber yard even sells barbeque sauce for another day. They sell Famous Dave’s sauces, Rich & Sassy, Devils Spit, Georgia Mustard. But my favorite is the Texas Pit and I never see that there. What is going on?

I hear about it all the time – my wife works for a ice cream and flavorings company. Certain ingredients go up,something has to give.

Would you have been happier if they’d changed the recipe?…I started noticing that my favorite icecream had less cherries…”Oh YA”,my wife said – “The price of cherries has gone thru the roof”….She hates it that my favorite is made by a competitor….Blue Bunny Chocolate cherry jubilee. I seldom eat it any more. – hardly any cherries, lower quality chocolate.

Some are using cheaper sweeteners, lower quality chocolate…I no longer eat 3 Sara Lee cherry cheesecakes per week because the price shot up to more than I’m willing to spend….I recently stopped my personal boycott of Dannon after they went from 8oz cups to 6oz. I now eat 3 per serving instead of two. Cherry,of course….Little Debbie nutty buddy bars have almost doubled in price the past few years. It’s my back-up dessert (when there’s nothing else in the cupboard) no longer.

BBQ sauce?…Corn syrup price gone wild?…Besides, everything has gone up.

I was thinking of the exact same thing. Often times Home Depot has double-packs of 20 lb bags on sale for dirt cheap, though. I stock up. I have a couple hundred pounds in the garage right now

That sale is usually around Memorial Day and always around Labor Day. If I remember correctly it was 7.99 for 2 20lb bags this year.

Here’s one that most people don’t know about and we just discovered a few weeks ago. I can only speak about one brand and it is puffs facial tissue. You would think that the sheets you are buying would be uniform, but they are not and actually alternate in size as you go throgh the box. We found as muc as 1-1/2′ difference in width to as little as a 1/4″ difference. I found that pretty sly on there part, most people only use one sheet so they do not notice, but I usually use two and that is how I noticed. Just another way to increase profits and fool the consumer.

i fully understand a company marketing their product in a different way to make more profit. this is the good old u s of a. that is why they are in business, to make money. this is proformance review time of the year and christmas bonus time of the year. my only hope is that the company that puts out rudolphs bbq sauce, will give out better bonuses and maybe give the workers a bump in salery. my guess is that the profits will stay in the office and only affect management

How about the toilet paper that has suddenly decreased in width over the last few years. Had to replace the holders in the shop because the rolls were suddenly a 1/2 narrower and would not fit the rodless holders. Working in the paper converting industry other things have decreased in size and the costs have remained the same or increased…. Fast food soft drinks that were 22 oz now 20 oz, 32 now 30, 44 now 40….. all in the intrest of the fast food industry inflating the bottom line.

after sending off a few emails and finding the right contact person. i was told that that the distrubiter did change the pricing to reflect the bottle size change. it was the retailer that kept the price the same as the bigger bottles. i was told that only 3 stores were checked, but the price was the same at all 3 and there are alot more stores than that around the state. at this point i don’t know if they, the retailer, just made a mistake or they seen this as a chance to widen their profit margin

After many years of working in the grocery stores as an electrician and talking with both management and the suppliers, the supplier sets the price not the store or retailer. The store rents out the shelf space for the different products lines. The store ultimately does the pricing so it is a uniform appearance so unless it is a brand that is named or related to the store directly like here in Wisconsin Copps, pick n save and roundy’s are all the same company so they are responsible for those prices. Just wanted to give you a little insight.

Although I am quite sure that WALMART tells the supplier what they are paying…
