LMS 522C Install?

Okay, it’s 51 degrees out and I decided to take advantage of the spring-like weather by installing my recently-purchased Lowrance LMS 522C IGPS unit.

After careful review of the owner’s manual – and even an hour or two playing around with the online emulator, I tear open the box and “go in”.

I take my time with the wiring, get it all squared away, plug in the unit and – nothing. I double and triple check everything. Still nothing.

Yes, I ran power to both the main power supply and the GPS. I checked the female end of the power supply cable (where it hooks up to the unit) and I have 12 volts on two pins.

The unit doesn’t beep, chirp, flash – nothing. Think I got a bad unit?

I purchased it at Cabela’s – which is a short THREE HOUR DRIVE AWAY. Thoughts/suggestions/tips?

are you sure that the source that you are pulling the power from (hopefully a 12 v battery) has power coming out of it? Are you sure your wires are connected properly and that you have screwed the wire evenly onto your unit? Do you have a fuser breaker and if so, is it working properly? If all of these units are true, then I would think you might have a ‘troubled’ unit.

I had two 520c’s and I had the same problem but my issue was fuses. Make sure that the inline fuses are good and if the are check if you have power going through both of them if you have power on everything in the plug I would take the unit to a store that sells them and has one on display and try plugging it into the power cord they have hooked up if still nothing then you will have to make the long trip back to cabela’s and exchange it. If you do that tell them that you want them to take it out of the box and plug it in on there display rack to make sure it works. Don’t let them tell you that they can’t do this because if they do they are lying. You could also talk with some one that deals with lowrance or has one wired up in there boat and plug it into theres if they don’t mind as long as the connectors are the same color this will work.

I’ve checked with a multi-meter and verified that I have 12V all the way to the unit. I also insured that the ground was making continuity.

I’m confident that Cabela’s will exchange the unit for me without any hassle – I’m just not looking foward to having to un-install all the cables and transducer in order to return the unit I have.

    Hmph.

Did you try to reset the unit??

    LMS 522C iGPS Soft Reset

    1. Turn unit OFF
    2. Press and hold the PAGES key
    3. Press and hold the PWR key
    4. Release both buttons when the USA map
    appears

Soft Reset (Does not delete GPS Data)

    LMS 522C iGPS Hard Reset

    1. Turn unit OFF
    2. Press and hold the ZIN&ZOUT Keys at
    the same time
    3. Press and hold the PWR key
    4. Release both buttons when the USA map
    appears

Hard Reset (Deletes stored GPS Data
    such as Waypoints and trails)

It’s worth a shot at this point.

I’m sure Cabela’s would let you exchange just the head unit
and not make you remove power and transducer cables
    it the resets don’t help.

    Keep us posted!!
