The guys have been running with Pro-lite, they all all like it and it has performed well.
Problem is Tile shop doesn’t carry it so we have to make multiple stops for supplies.
So I was thinking about switching over to Ardex X5 – We use Ardex feather finish for sub-floor prep and love that product.
The downside I see is it’s heavier, 40 lb bag vs 30 lb bag of Pro-lite. Both have the same coverage.

Anyone use X 5? Good? Bad?

I use Pro Bond thinset by Superior. 25 and 50 lb sacks

I have never used the Ardex thinset, but have used plenty of other Ardex products without issue so I wouldnt be concerned. I personally use either Schluters Allset or Uzin, which is a newer product but has performed tremendously for me. I tried the Tile Shop exclusive mortar and hated it.

    Matthew –
Yeah, I haven’t heard good things about Tile shop mortar and a couple years ago we went away from Schluter products, didn’t like the modified/unmodified situation needed for installation.

We really like the Pro-lite but like the idea of a one stop shopping place and Ardex hasn’t let us down yet. Just not happy with the heavier bags.

    Thanks for your input

Ive avoided the modified/unmodified situation by simply using their mortar and its been fine. I tend to like working with the schluter slightly better than Wedi for shower applications, so I’ve been going that way lately. Although some days I think I may just go back to old fashioned deck mud and cement board.

As mentioned, I wouldn’t hesitate with Ardex at all. I do like Pro Lite though. I used that for years without issue.

We really like Wedi. We do mostly curbless applications and schluter ramp systems just didn’t work well for us. Great product though.
