I’m looking for 12v fans for my house. I tried the pc fans and they weren’t cutting it.

I would like switched, variable speed fans that could be turned down super low to just move hot air to the floor, or turned up high enough to provide breeze in the summer. Ideally they would have a slider type adjustment over just a few settings.

I have three spots for fans and I run one battery/inverter.

    Stop into a truck stop!

Or Fleet Farm. They have bins of trucker fans. Cheap too. I’d have to look but I think they have Hi/low settings. Cigarette adapter plug in.

I tried the fleet farm ones and they fell apart in one use and crazy loud.

I bought a few of these for mine last year. They work great, move a lot of air, infinite direction adjustments, and fairly quiet. I also installed a speed control onto them to fine tune the speed as the speed switch on them kinda sucks.

Yea I tried the $20 ones from northern tool – very loud and vibrated. Lasted maybe 100hrs.

Might try one of these above. What speed control did you get/how does it install? Do these fans have a bracket or do you just screw them on?

I just drilled through the base and screwed them down.

For speed control I used some Pulse Width Modulators(PWM). They are much more efficient than Potentiometers. These are the ones I used. I have a panel that I mounted all my controls onto, but there may be just enough room in the base of the fan itself to fit the PWM. I used these same PWMs for my LED lighting dimmers as well.

I have 3 spots on my cedar trim with 12v “always on” wires coming out – I would probably cut the cigarette plugs off and solder them to the wires to remove the excess length. Can you remove the switch and fit the dials in there, or do you still need the switch to get zero power? This is slightly over my head for electronics so I need the idiots guide.

Quite possibly. It’s been a year since I’ve had them apart so don’t fully remember what the inside looks like but see no reason why it won’t.
