Wisconsin archery deer hunt with “Top Heavy”

This hunt actually started several months ago when we were given the opportunity to lease a small parcel of land in wis. Brad showed us a couple of good spots and by using trail cameras we were able to pinpoint several stand locations and also make a hit list of shooter bucks.

In mid October Top Heavy was able to hunt the lease for three days and only saw a couple of does on a three day hunt. The trail cameras still showed at least 4 bucks over 140″ but only at night. so we opted to wait until we started to see the bucks moving during the daylight before we hunted again.

 

 

On October 31st I checked the cameras and we had several shooter bucks moving during shooting hours! I called “Top heavy” and we made a plan to hunt November 4th and 5th. We got a late start and didn’t get to our stands until after 2:00 pm. the wind was blowing out of the north at about 20 mph! I really didn’t have a good feeling about seeing anything with the winds blowing that hard! But we were there to hunt so off we went.

 

“Top Heavy” spent the next couple of hours swaying back and forth in his tree, Then at about 5:00 the wind started to lay down so he Grunted a couple of times,rattled and about 15-20 minutes later he caught movement from the southwest… Top Heavy knew this deer and Immediately stood up and went to full draw, There was only about a 10′ area on top of the ridge to shoot him or he would be gone!

Top Heavy stopped the wide tall 8 and put a 3 blade Rage broad head thru both lungs, The wide 8 ran about 60 yards down hill and piled up!
