Coulee Archers 3D Shoot 08.28.10

Anyone who watches Hunting programs on any given channel have probably seen the commercial with Michael Waddell shooting along side Lee & Tiffany Lakosky. The last comment in the commercial is “Why’d you bring her….??” Well, I can honestly admit, that was the main theme for the day and subtitle to this report.

Today, I teamed up with Pat Howard and his lovely wife Lori. Let’s just say, Pat and I were in for an education while all throughout the shoot, asking & wondering “Why’d you bring her….??”

I’ll admit, this is the first 3D shoot I’d ever been on. After the end of our round, I was wondering what on earth had ever taken me so long to try this? Today’s shoot was flat out, one of the funnest things I’ve done in some time. Typically all I ever do, is haul my Block out into the yard and back up until the rangefinder say 40 yds. Today, we never had a target that far out, but we were close a few times.

I would be remiss to not admit, my shooting wasn’t the best. In fact, there was a couple times I was completely embarrassed with my shooting. But that’s life, you take some good with some bad. Today, the pendulum covered the entire spectrum of good & bad. While Lori on the other hand had her bow dialed in and dropped the hammer with extreme precision. Pat however, seemed to follow somewhere between Lori and I. Considering none of us were taking this shoot all too seriously, no one seemed to care how the other shot.

If you look closely in the 3rd pic, you’ll see lots of greenery with ample amounts of last years leaves stuck to the ground. Somewhere in between, is Pat’s arrow. Truth be told, at the target before this one, lays one of my arrows as well. I forced myself to believe that leaving an arrow on the shooting range was a way to homage to the archery Gods. Not sure I still believe that, although I know I’ll find myself back at the archery shop looking for some more arrows….

All throughout the shoot, I kept privately wondering if they’d have that Raptor 3D target I’d seen on occasion at Gander Mtn. As luck would have it, the final station was indeed the Raptor. I couldn’t wait to throw an arrow into this particular target so I could take some pics and tell my Son William I’d shot a Dinosaur. This station happened to be the best of the day as all 3 of us had great shot placement.

I learned a lot today at this 3D shoot. I learned the easy looking shots aren’t easy and the harder looking shoots sometimes become real easy. All-in-all, I had a lot of fun shooting with Pat & Lori, as laughs were shared all around. All I know, is out of a possible 560, I shot a 400. I’m guessing, it’s not real close to what Lori shot and maybe just a hair better than Pat. But in the end, no one was counting….except for Pat who kept asking me “Why’d you bring her….??” Not sure why he was asking me that….they rode together…

Thanks Pat & Lori for a great morning. I hope to do that again real soon.

Pat you need to work out. It shouldn’t be that hard to pull an arrow out of that target…

They come out easy if you shoot where you are supposed too

  4. Yeah!! I did shoot well. Thanks for inviting me guys. I have always enjoyed 3-D shoots. I was very happy to hit all targets as I didn’t miss any and very happy with my score. Everything happened so naturally and every arrow hit just right on Saturday. Let’s hope that happens when the bucks come in.

  5. Atta girl Lori! Way to show up those boys! Great recap Tom and thanks for sharing your 3-D shoot with us! It’s a great reminder for me to shoot my bow more in real hunting situations!

  6. That doesn’t suprise me one bit Lori, great job showing them how its done!!
