Lake Trout Jigging Milwaukee Harbor

Made it out last week with Steve Panaz from North American Fisherman to film a show and we just crushed the lakers jigging plastics and then we went and casted jerk baits for browns and also did very well on some dandy brown trout. Literally caught as many dandy lakers as we wanted with plastics. This bite has been incredible all spring for lakers!

The fishing in the spring for these lakers has been just a tremendous bonus for a normal spring brown trout bite, each year more and more lakers are moving up to feed heavy on the goobies which is really changing the bite down in the harbors. The lakers can live to be 50+ years old so I’m a strict on CPR of those fish and hope that some day this can be a really awesome big fish factory for lakers but that will take many more years of CPR.

  1. Great report Eric

    Beautiful fish

What a multispecies fishery you guys have in Lake Michigan It’s just simply amazing

  2. We are going to Canada this summer to fish for lakers and we always have used jigs and sucker meat. What type of plastic are you using? Thanks.

  3. Its been a long time since I was able to make it out for those enormous fish. I’ll never forget the zing of my drag when I cought the first one!

  4. Say Eric, now that I’m about done with school and I’ll have time and $$, when is the best time to be out there for A. Trophy Walleye and B. Them insanely large Browns? I’d imagine the walleye early April to mid- April? Thats back seat though. I really want to catch one of those Mammoth Brownies. When is the best time for them?

  5. Best time for eyes (Big Girls) is Late March-late April for big browns Ocotber-March. Just finished up with an incredible season up in green bay, we caught 54 fish 2 days ago!

    Best of Luck!
