Fishing Report for April 4

Friday jess and I ran up to Bayfield for some trout and salmon fishing on lake superior. all but part of the bay were free of ice and guys are catching salmon, trout, steelhead, and lakers in the islands and near shore.

We got into a bunch of coho and lost a couple bigger fish possibly some trout. We kept 6 coho all in the three-three and a half pound range. Lost a few by the boat and missed some, none slammed the bait, every fish was caught in the nose by the tail hook.

all were caught on Reef Runner Rip Sticks trolled at about 2 mph, in about 16 feet of water at the mouths of rivers. hot colors were the best.

Great day for the first time out this year, heading back up there this week and will post reports.

Good luck,
Tanner Wildes

  1. Glad to have seen ya that day Tanner.. Lots of coho around this year, for sure. One of my best, numbers wise, for those little tasty fishes!!

We went on the hunt for browns that day, found a few along with a mess of coho as well.

  2. WTG Tanner!!! Good to see you brought Mr. Hudson out of the woodwork as well!!!

A buddy and I got up to Saxon Harbor east of you just north of Hurley on Sunday a.m. He was up there Wed. and Thurs. and got some of each species. The shoreline water was fairly muddy and it seemed that the mudline extended out to the 30′ range, but the early morning rain and an impending shower was enough to discourage us from continuing, but we will be back!!! Good stuff.

The best part of the morning was the tom gobbling on the ridge above the harbor, the dingbat even responded to one of my mouth calls!!!
