Lake Vermilion

Hey All,

The walleye action has been just outstanding for me this week. I have been trolling cranks in the open basin. There has been action on many styles of baits but the back/silver ReefRunners have by far been the best.

Mainlake island groups, the deep shoreline breaks, midlake humps and mainlake stucture, have all been producing some very nice fish.

Jigs/minnows are also starting to pick up some good fish along deep edges and steep vertical drops in the main basin. Weed edges and channel areas are also starting to pick up as walleyes move into their fall patterns.

The muskie action has been good on the east end, but I have been struggling to find fish west of the Oak narrows.

Big Gliders, jerkbaits and big hair have all been productive for me this week. Most of the fish have been on the rocks and mainlake points in areas where the algee bloom is not present.

Niles bay, Fraiser bay, the north side of Pine island and many of the smaller west end bays have a very substantial bloom right now. I have been trying to avoid these areas, in favor of clearer water. Big Bay (east end)and Wakemup bay (west end) are relatively clear and the action has been much better in these areas.

Have a great week everybody and please remember to put some back!

I have been guiding fulltime since 1988, I also do a few tournaments for Muskie and walleye. I am addicted to fishing all species, but the one that makes me smile the most, is Muskie!
