Pokegam remains hot…more bites after dark

Well before I get to the night bite, we did manage to pull a 10.3 lb walleye this week during the middle of the day. Here is the picture. This was the last day for me during the day, I went to the night bite strickly as the fish became negative during the day, making for a heck of a night bite.

So the night bite is in full swing, yep it is, but the bite is varying from night to night on the time that they strat the feeding frenzy. One night it seems to be right at dark and other nights at 4 AM, but beyond that, when the action strats the rods are bending constently. We are seeing some numbers of 22-25 inch fish, but the most consistent catch each night is those 15-17 inch eaters.

But as things cycle of this next full moon period, we should see the numbers of big fish coming to the boat increase, along with those eaters. The best baits over the last week or so have been a # 12 clown colored husky jerk. Night in and out its been are best roducer. Key depths are 4-5 feet of water. Key areas are those large snad flats.

Good Luck and hope to see ya out there.

  1. Sean that is truly an awesome fish. I’m glad you were able to get that photo added to your original report. Is your night bite still holding strong for big fish? I see this one was caught right in the middle of the day.

Anyway, thanks for sharing the pic.

  2. Excellent, its just not the same without the picture. The big fish after dark are just starting to get active. Pokey and big fish are normally in August thru October as far as the night bite goes. June and July one can count on more of a big fish bites during the day…mid-day at that, especially when its sunny with no wind. For some reason the worst walleye conditions bring out the bigguns on Pokey
Thanks for getting the picture added.
