Pool 4 Rookie

Well I am not exactly a rookie to Pool 4,but it sure feels that way some times when you look at all the presentations used here to catch fish. I have been lucky enough as of late to have some very good tutors willing to share with me, leadcore trolling and handlining presentations.

This pic of Marc Strickland and myself with a double sauger leadcore catch on the new Rapala #5 bleedingshad colors. These fish were in the 21 inch range and verrry healthy and aggressive. We were to have several doubles on in just a few hours of trolling.Depths ranged from 14 to 22 feet. Thanks to Scott Fairbairn for sharing his techniques and being patient with this leadcore rookie!

With the recent FLW tour in town,I was able to get some hands on time handlining as well! My results were not as good as my leadcore outing, but I sure got to watch my teachers catch a bunch of fish! There is no denying that handlining can be a very effective fish catching presentation. A big thanks to Rick LaCourse for sharing some of the basics with me.

Now that the in-land seasons have opened and the major tourneys are behind us,it is the perfect time to try out a new presentation that you have been curious about. The regular methods for myself, longline trolling, jigdragging, and pitching are all effective presentations now. For you whitebass fans, 3/32 and 1/8 bucktails and plastics are providing a bunch of rod bending action right now and the crowd factor has been minimal. Rumor has it that the catfish are starting to go as well! Without a doubt,Pool 4 offers a variety of quality fish and a bunch of ways to catch them,it has been alot of fun for me to try something new! Enjoy and be safe everyone!

  1. Thanks for the report Dean had a buddy of mine check some spots for me yesterday and he caught over 20 eyes from 13″ to 21″ nothing huge but good action for a few hours he said dragging jigs on live bait in 8′-12′ of water. See ya Saturday sir coming down to break in the boat motor

  2. I’ll need to get down to visit you and learn how to set up those riggings. I was up on P3 and watched the pros handlining fish-after-fish. It looked quite effective as I’m sure the leadcore technique is too.

  3. I NEVER thought of you as a rookie. More like my hero getting to fish weekdays whenever you can

I should get down there this weekend for a daytime walleye bite, as well as a night flat trip.

    Thanks for the report

  4. Great report Dean! I can’t wait to make it up there for the GTG and check that place out. I’ve been wanting to get up there for a few years now. I’ll see you 6 weeks from today!!

  5. Dean,
Saw you on the lake Wed. night during one of your doubles with Scott. We also had good fish going but no doubles, looked like fun. I to had my first handlinning lesson with Rick Lacourse on day 3 of the tournament this year. Being taught by the master of handlinning, there is no better way. Tricks and information that will be with me for life. I then had to go out and buy some new equipment for the boat.
    See ya on the water
