I’m not sure why I’m even bothering to reply. I honestly don’t care how people spend their money or which rod they fish with or what they paid for it. I think it was bcauuse I saw a chance to save from overspending when other rods will do thesame or better job for the same money.

Dustin, I have lots of respect for you and your river skills but I never said the mitchels have a moderate action.

Which means that when comparing a croix to a mitchell based on the stated rod action the croix rods will have a faster action. I tend to think you actually agree with me since you stressed these mitchel rods are to be fished with hard line. I’ve followed this site for a long time and know youre a mono guy. One of the common reason I know that a mono guy would fish jigs and hard line is to compensate for a slower action rod. So it sounds like we agree.

Thanks Dean. I was down to fish out of your resort last week. I was with Artie. You might know him he comes down to fish 4 a bunch more than me. I didn’t bring any baked goods but you helped get us on some saugers anyway which is appreciated.

As for the rods I agree chpioces are good. And in that price range for that rod a guy has a bunch of choices as they are just one of many rods made overseas inthat price range and at that level of quality. It isn’t a bad blank by any means at that $60 to 80 price range. I just find the mitchel rods to be rediculously over priced. I’ve been building my own rods for quite along time. I won’t claim to be a guru at it but I know my way around a rod blank. That’s a $60 -80 rod. Mitchell charges more and sinks the profits into marketing to get the masses to drink the koolaid.

I’m not a brand loyal guy. In my opinion the loomis 720 & 721’s are a great rod for vertical jigging and the Stcroix Avid 6’9mlxf is one of my favrites for casting.

Comparing a mitchell to an avid for pitching jigs isn’t logical to me. The mitchell fast actions blanks would likely be comparable to a modfast in a croix and modfast doesn’t make a good jig pitcher. That is largely due to the lower modulus blank, less progressive tapers and a high percentage of fillers in the mitchell blank.

His website lists them as hyper modulus that basically means less than nothing. I’ve fished them and theyre the same rod offered by gander cabelas scheels and dozens of other rod companies having their rods cranked out in china. If you want a decend middle of the road rod find a nice im7 or im8 at the lowest price you can find and go fish. Gander guide series, bass pro private label, j. mitchell are all so similar the only thing noticably different is the lable and the handle shape. Loomis and croix ar eabout the only big companies excluding customs that really have anything unique to offer and Croix is the only rod company making anything here in the USA. Why anyone would pay $140 for one of these rods blows my mind when you can get the same thing at gander for $60. I’m sur e someone will give me a hard time for this being my first post but thats my opinion.
