Wood boiler ashes.

I’m new to an outside wood boiler. Just wondering what people do with the ashes after cleaning it out. I’ve heard of spreading it on the driveway, but don’t want to track it in the house. There’s a pile where the previous owner put it, but I don’t like the location. It’s too close to my woodpile, trees, and tall grass. I’ve heard it’s good for a garden, but I haven’t broke ground at the new place yet. I was thinking I have about an acre and a half beaver pond (3-4 ft deep). Would it hurt anything if I spread it out on it? It would be safe if I went in the middle. It’s far from anything that could start on fire from some of the embers. What do you think? Any advice?

Stock pile it for your garden, start a compost pile to mix it in with.

Be careful with the pond. Not positive but I believe any natural pond or Marsh maybe protected by the Minnesota Wetland Act.
You can add the ash to the lawn, also good in garden for a lime substitute. Good for potassium and calcium needing plants like tomatoes
Ash is not good for acid loving plants Like blueberries.
Ash also promote scab on potatoes.

my thoughts also. Even if it isn’t, still not a good idea.

You can also make your own glaze for your pottery. Sift it and give it to your pottery club for Christmas jester .

Ashes in a garden can change the soil’s ph and mess things up for years. I think I’d find an “edge” on the property where water doesn’t move thru it and the ashes aren’t in the way or going to upset the natural balance of things.

i put some ashes from my campfire pit in my garden but it doesnt amount to a whole lot. had no issues with growning anything and it has cut way back on cutworms i used to deal with!
