When the roof of your car or truck is loaded with Heavy wet snow, Be sure to take the time to clean it off before driving. Found this one out the hard way at lunch. Came to a stop light and hit the brakes a little hard to stop and the heavy wet snow from the roof slid off onto windshield covering it totally. Hit the wipers, No luck, to heavy to move it. Looked like a fool getting out to clear it off with my arms. Glad I was not moving at the time. That could have turned out bad. I should have know better.

amen fishthumper. I was driving to work earlier this winter on a road with a speed limit of 55. It was a day or two after a big snowfall. A car coming in the opposite direction of me was driving with a roof full of snow. I’m not sure if they caught a gust of wind or what, but it flew off just as they were passing me and smashed into the side of my car. I know I was going about 55 and I’m sure they were about the same, so that chunk of snow/ice hit my car with a force of over 100mph since we were going in opposite directions. It sounded like a train hit me. Luckily it hit the rear quarter of the vehicle and only broke my bumper, but it got me to thinking that if it hit my windshield, it might have killed me because it clearly had turned to a chunk of ice.

Wipe off your car folks. Don’t be a a lazy @$$. I’m sure you guys wouldn’t think its funny if one of your loved ones was seriously injured by this happening.

“I can’t reach the roof of my truck.”

Try leaving all the air out of your tires to quickly lower the truck.
You should then be able to reach the roof.

Running boards are on order. 3/4 ton sits to high. Especially after the leveling lift that just got installed. I never really want to reach the roof either. Just go drift back roads till it all blows off.
My kids enjoy that technique as well

You guys need a Shuttsco Snow Rake.
I never leave home without mine. I refuse to be the guy with snow on his roof blowing off into other’s windshields.

He is talking about a box truck. I have seen that a lot this winter and do not try to use the wipers if it happens to you as you can damage the wiper arms or linkage.

I just keep a shop broom in the box. A lot faster and easier than a little brush and yeah, you can reach the roof lol

Letting heavy snow and ice blow off on the highway is similar to not tieing off off items in your truck bed or boat that can fly out endangering other motorists.

It’s actually illegal to drive on a public road with significant amount of snow on the roof of your vehicle, or in the bed of your truck. I have a co worker who was pulled over driving down the highway with snow flying behind him. It can cause an accident and law enforcement considered it to be “loose debris” just like something that isn’t properly strapped down.

I believe that’s where the problem initially came from. A large pile of snow or piece of ice that falls off a car or truck at speed could easily cause a serious problem on the road to other drivers.

A word of caution here. The FW used the push broom from our garage and it took me a few minutes to figure out where all the scratches came from. I’m not sure if there was sand in the broom or there was something stuck to the bristles. They buffed out though. $$

Appreciate it. With my current truck I just look at it that I’m maybe scraping a little rust off.

Is this a newer Ford F-150 by chance? I have had snow slide off roofs a little bit over the years with different vehicles but not as bad with my work issued F-150. It is extreme and even happens while just sitting in parking lot after a snowstorm and we don’t get a chance to clean it off.

A leaf blower is a nice tool to have in the winter for light snow removal like this

As a matter of fact it is. a 2012 model year. I do think the roof design does play a roll in this.
