nick,I grew up on a farmall H,unless you get one with an externally mounted hydraulic pump it is woefully under powered in that area and you wont be able to lift much more than the bucket, especially if its a larger bucket.

the other issue is that is a very light tractor and unless you weight the crap out of it on the back you will cuss that thing into the ground as it will be hard if not impossible to back up any kind of hill.
( of course this is true with any two wheel drive tractor )

the H is a fantastic tractor in many respects two of which is fuel efficiency at just slightly under two gallons an hour under load and you can put a clutch in it without splitting it.
I would hate to think about how many thousands of hours I put on one of those when I was growing up,that and a 1938 F-20 with hand brakes and later on a farmall M.

Thanks. more of want a tractor than need a tractor. Something can plow my pretty short drive way with and make a sledding hill. maybe putz around yard/woods with a little, and have something to bring to the threshing show each year. right now I’m the only one in the family tractorless. figure the h wouldn’t be the best thing, but pretty common and cheaper than others. also don’t want to get anything so big that I can’t haul it every great once in awhile.

gotcha, finding one with a wide front is next to impossible and most of those that did have it were aftermarket, and cheaply made.
I think Schwartz made one of the better wide fronts back in the day, find one of those and you would be good to go,if I am not mistaken parts are still available.

the only thing I ever hated about the H was its low fuel consumption as you could rake hay for two days without filling up,at least with the M using five gallons an hour I got to go to the house to fill up twice a day and see if Ma had made any cookies lol.
