    I’m being lazy…

Anyone point me in the direction of an online contour map of Pool 4?

Not aware of any contour maps. But there are the general navigation maps here:

Thanks Jon. That’s a great website for navigational information and the maps will be handy. However, I’m looking for a quick-fix to look for structural details. My son told me last night that he has a school project due next week (instructional video) and I was hoping to do a quick assessment of bottom-structure etc to see if I could narrow down target locations on Pool 4. We only have a few hours to fish on Saturday morning and we’re hoping to hook into a few ‘eyes for his project (he’s doing a presentation on walleye fishing techniques). Likewise, we thought it would be awesome to include some contour maps in his presentation, if we can find one that can be shared. If we strike out on the mapping part, we’ll probably just hit the dam area and below the “Y”. I’ve only been on P4 a few times before so I’m quite limited in the areas I feel comfortable going to, especially as we need to be off the water by around 10:00 am.

Next time, hopefully my son will give a bit more advanced notice!

It’s a spendy alternative but the ’07 Lakemaster chip has pool 4 on it and it is great! Other than that I’ve searched but never found a contour map for it.

Oh, didn’t see your reply sorry

I’d love to get one of those… however, that purchase would also require the purchase of a unit (most likely a GPS/SONAR combo) in which to use it! Hmmmmmmm…….. It would be for school….

The Navionis Premium North chip has a decent contour map too.

Hot Spots has a contour map of pool 4. But again, never seen an on-line contour map for any of the pools.

how about a paper version? Does Dean carry any of those in his shop? We’ll be launching from Everts so if he carries them, that will save me a trip tonight to FleetFarm or Gander Mtn.

This is not the greatest, but here’s a zoom-able map that shows depth for all parts of the pool. Purple is deep, green is shallow.

No fine detail here, but it allows you to see deep holes, shallow sand bars, and the like.

It’s important to remember that because this is a river system, it will be very difficult to produce (and maintain) an electronic map of P4, particularly of the upper and lower riverine portions.

How do you make that map zoom in?

I had to save it to my computer as a GIF file and then zoom with the picture viewer. The resolution was inadequate to determine much detail on the upper section (by Everts) of the river. Maybe Jason will chime in with a better way…

Yep, gotta save it and them zoom in from there. On my work machine, I can just zoom in/out using the wheel on the mouse. I’m sure there are other ways too.

You’re on target concerning the limited resolution. I use the map to help me think about general locations and depths (i.e., what side of the river is the channel on, where are deeper holes where fish might hold while resting)…..the finer details are discovered through time spent on the water.

right on Jason… From that map, I’ve put together a few ideas on places to look. After that, I’ll be looking at my depthfinder and watching the surface current
