I have a pair of neoprene waders that have a slow leak. The rubber boots are weather cracked and the sewn seams might leak. It would be nice if I get get them through the rest of the duck season. Has anyone tried flex seal? Im sure it will work for the rubber boots but wondering if it will eat away at the neoprene.

There is a product called aquaseal that will take care of it. I tried goop first, then a wader repair kit, and both failed. Aquaseal is holding after more than a year at this point. This was for a crack in the ankle of the boot.

They are past the point of a wader repair kit. Also I believe the stitching is leaking. I might just try it, I have nothing to lose. at this point they can just be thrown away anyways.

Get a tube of ShoeGoo or Sportsmans Goop at Menards or wherever. Apply it / spread it on to everywhere you think is leaking. It’s $4 a tube, so just go to town on them. Nice thing about Goop, you can spread it like peanut butter out over a larger area to reinforce or cover a wear spot that’s cracking.

I’ve used this stuff for 20 years on all manner of waders. Neoprenes are the hardet waders to patch as the water seems to be able to “migrate” around the patch in some instances creating more of a “spot” than a leak.

I tried to fix a pair of hip boots with Goop, and had a hard time getting it to stick. Did you do anything special to prepare the surface? I tried roughing it up with sandpaper and wiping it down with isopropyl alcohol but it still fell off.

Were they LaCrosse by chance? That’s the only brand I’ve had trouble sticking Goop to. Something about the rubber compound, it’s slick as heck and you are right on, roughing it up doesn’t seem to work. I’ve got Goop patches on my Xtratuf boots that hold just fine.

But for waders, it sticks to anything. Nylon, neoprene, Gortex, etc.

The only other problem I’ve had with Goop is not keeping it on, but getting it off. We put a hole in a boat once in Canada and I patched it with a Bud can cut flat and a bunch of Goop. Back home a few weeks later the repair shop called an said what is this stuff? We can’t get it off. So that boat lived the rest of its life with a Bud can patching a hole in thhull.

Aquaseal has worked well for me for years.

Grouse they were Frogg Togg hippers, and the plastic they’re made of did look shiny. That’s why I tried roughing up the surface. But no luck, they still leaked. The Goop did stick to my fingers, pants, and workbench wonderfully however…….
