I have been using Synthetic winch rope for my ATV’s and SXS’s for a few years now with great success. Well, now it’s time to buy more cable for my Yetti and I got to thinking if synthetic would work better? I tried doing some searches online and have not come up with much. Has anyone replaced their Galvanized or Stainless cables with synthetic rope on their wheelhouses? I do not see any downside whatsoever, but I could be wrong. I have had synthetic freeze but it is still very pliable and easy to work with when frozen. Anyone experience or foresee any negatives to switching?

You’ll need to ensure all the surfaces the rope touches is free from any burrs and sharp edges.

Yes, I have done that with one of my old Warn winches when I converted to synthetic and haven’t had any issues. I am also curious if it would be necessary to splice or if you can get away with tying. For anyone who has experience splicing synthetic rope, it can be a huge pain for smaller rope. My ATV and SXS winch was spliced from the factory…but my plow rope for my ATV is just tied and has held up.

curious that yeti has only been in the wheel house market place a 3-4 years tops and you already have to replace the cables?

I’d stick with SS cables if possible

Clint, I have had to replace the cables 3 times since 2010 (I believe that’s when I got it…). 2 of the 3 times it was the front cable from a faulty design on the first run Yetti’s. The other two were back cables that snapped when they were at 50% while I was cranking the other side down. I spray my cables with Bel-Ray bike chain lube after every trip. All 1/4″ 7×19 Galv cable. Either going stainless or will be trying synthetic rope for the back two cables.

I’ve have stainless on my wheelhouse….I haven’t seen any issues. drive down a lot of gravel to get to lakes, plus the salt, etc. they seem to be holding up fine
