I just got the invite to fish out of a friend-of-a-friend’s place in Sturgeon Bay over Memorial weekend.

I’ve never been to Sturgeon Bay before, and have never fished Lake Michigan that early in the year (I typically fish Kewaunee/Algoma in late June-early July)

Can’t remember what member here has a place there (Musky Ed maybe??), but looking for any tips on what methods/locations to try (and what boat/gear to bring)

I know it’s definitely on the early side for the big Chinook run, but is the lake-side in general worth trying for cohos/browns/steelhead/kings?? Or is it mostly a bass/eye bite on the bay side?

Any info or past experiences from that time of year would be awesome! It’s all new to me. Thanks guys

Can’t speak for the salmon bite that far north on the lake but a couple years ago when we were over there like this time of year walleye fishing the bay it was to windy to go out of oconto so we made the drive over to sturgeon bay to fish. Fishing was ok for how limited we were by the wind but it’s a really really cool area. Seems like those pesky lake trout are always pretty readily available on the lake too if you just need to bend the rod. I can’t speak for that area but everywhere else we’ve been out there people really like to give info out on those buggers because they are pretty frowned upon. I’d say definitely worth the trip.
