Should I use 32:1 oil for 2 stroke boat motor?

I picked up my new used 15 hp Johnson motor today It should use 50:1 oil. The mechanic suggested using 32:1 he said it will smoke some but better lubrication any truth to that? I thought maybe 40:1 would be OK but 32 seems like a lot

No, do not over-mix. Really a bad idea. Causes no end to the problems, fouled plugs, carbon deposits, etc, etc. Have to shake my head at a mechanic who would even suggest this.

Use 50:1. I’ve been doing on 1980s OMCs since they were new. Also, keep in mind, today’s oils are so much better in terms of lubrication and protection, there’s absolutely no need to over mix. Synthetic 2 stroke oils were almost unheard of when that motor was new, now they are commonplace.

I highly recommend a good oil and mixing it 50:1, would use like xd 50,or a amsoil product, will idle and start and run out way better then mixing it stronger, and with a good oil some will even run it thinner.

Mix it and burn it, it’s fine. I laugh at guys who run all over town to get “genuine Yamaha” oil or whatever their outboard brand is. As if that manufacturer had their own special oil well somewhere.

I’m not a fan of Quicksilver just because IMO there are better, lower smoking oils out there for the same price. Not because it won’t work well enough to get you on the water and do a decent job at protecting your engine.

It’s all made to the same marine standards, mix it and let ‘er rip.

Welcome to the club! Mine has done well on 50:1 I have used Valvoline, mystery brand and Phillips Injex. All standard petroleum based.

Me personally I would stay with a full synthetic, I had way to many outboards with stuck rings from carbon build up in the past, mix 50-1.
