Preventing bite offs question

We do a lot of trolling for walleyes with 10 lb. mono and I was wondering if anyone had a suggestion how to prevent bite offs from the 16-18” northerns that are now everywhere in the lake we fish. The water is pretty dirty so maybe a guy could get away with a leader material of some sort? Hate to lose those shadraps at $7-$8 a piece plus don’t like the thought of those hammer handles swimming around with them in their throats. The water we fish is usually ten foot or less. Any thoughts?

Floro would work or just a 12″ wire leader would also work.

I don’t know where you’re at but the pike in the backwaters, even smaller pike, eat fluoro like a twizler licorice twist. I make up 12″, 20 pound titanium wire leaders and they don’t really give up much, if any, action.

I use seaguar blue label fluorocarbon on many of my moving lures. I could not stomach the constant loss of jerk baits, crank baits, chatter baits, and spinner baits anymore.

This stuff is legit and stops toothy aggressive pike in their tracks. I do constantly check it to make sure it’s not damaged though. Replace when necessary. Any sort of weak spot is bad news.
