Looking for suggestions of size of portable air conditioners for a 8×17 plus v fish house for summer use, just go by the suggested sq or cu ft? Thanks!

Yep. You will likely need the smallest unit WalMart or Target sells. While you are there buy a small fan to circulate the air so you can keep the fan speed on the unit on low. (to keep it quiet)

When I built my wheel house I put in one window big enough to put a small window A/C unit. With it turned on high I can get it to 65 on a day when it is 90 outside. Now it will take a few hours to cool everything down, but it works well if you have a window that opens up so you can put a small window unit you won’t be disappointed.

I use a very small window unit that I bought in college. With the side skirts removed from the AC unit, it fits perfectly with less than a half inch on each side. A quick strip of gorilla tape to seal the gap and I’m off to the races. 6.5’x14′ yetti with sprayfoam insulation, keeps it nice and cool. The unit does not bog down the genny at all and it works great. 90% of small window AC units will be more than enough to cool down an ice house.

I got a on floor unit and vent it down a fish hole that I made a modified hole cover for out of plywood with a jig saw.
I don’t recall the BTU but I would recommend going up a step as the metal box tends to get hotter than a skid house.
