When I was listening to the radio give reports of rain fall totals in a number of cities this morning it sure didn’t seem like all that much. Then I looked at the Pool 4 prediction and a fella posted the St Croix prediction.
I know this are always higher then what we will actually see, but they are pretty significant for the rain totals I thought.

St Croix will be going into a NO WAKE by the end of this week and P4 will be just under action stage by Monday at 11.9 feet in Red Wing.

Great news. I love when the backwaters get some depth to them this time of year.

It makes for considerably better fall pan-fishing as it pushes baitfish shallower and into back areas even earlier.

BK the river water level terrorist! I always cheer for high water in the fall, the higher it freezes or the longer the water stays high closer to ice the more nice panfish I will find in the backwaters come ice.

Basically I just felt like regurgitating BuckyB )

Also, last year it seemed like a few under fished P4 spots produced well for nice saugers with the higher water…would be nice if it was like that again this year but that might all be a pipe dream.

I don’t care what the level is but I do like the flow under 30k cfs.

My four oz sinkers don’t float. )

The last time I fished the st croix during no wake in October the sturgeon fishing was unreal. I might have to dust of the old no roll sinkers.

Yes 2014 or ’15 was darn good. Couldn’t buy gas for have the tanks pumped on the cruisers. Between that and the no wake, it was pretty darn nice out there AND the bite was good to great!

P4 is terrible with high water (for sturgeon) though.

BK, can you post the link the the water level projection charts? I have all the other water level stuff bookmarked on my comp but I can never seem to find the one that shows predictions. Thanks

What depth do you guys target sturgeon this time of year? Might have to try it with the wife this weekend.

Justin, on the St Croix anywhere from 10 to 40 feet. Mostly in the 30 foot range.
Launch out of Bayport, go up stream to the power plant and start fishing moving every half hour if you don’t have a bite.

They are plentiful and move around. (unless it’s on of those days where they just aren’t biting)

I am headed down to Pool 4 this weekend camping and fishing. With this increase in water any tips for the Walleye? Do you think we will be better off in the lake with clearer water as the river will be muddy, or focus in on the newly created current seams and stay in the river?

    Thanks in advance!

All this means to me is instead if launching in Prescott boating to where I want to fish (up to 15 miles each way) I know will have to pay $$$$$ launch fees… Daily.
    Or, find them elsewhere.

Sturgeon don’t care whether it is no wake or not… But MOST sturgeon fished are hampered by boat waves.

I’m not sure of the other posters, but I was talking about the NW keeping the tuna boats and their wakes off the water…not to mention the close calls.

Although some folk see them on their graph, I’ve never been able to target them that way.

I set my chart to highlight the deepest water in the Bayport area, then fish in and around them. It doesn’t always give me the biggest fish but generally numbers. (On the Croix)

Please keep fingers away from the gills. Good Luck! toast
