What are people’s “go to” swimbaits these days? I’ve been using suicide shad for a couple years now but think I’d like to mix it up a little.

Guess I do t really have a favorite but have had some luck on big fish with strike king rage swimmers and rapala crush city. Also experimenting scheels brand pro swimmer.

New member here and my first post so not sure if it is common but I wanted to ask for some help. I’ve never river fished before but would love to try pool 2 since I’m a college student and it’s close to the U. Wondering if anyone could give me some spots to shore fish from? Or even better I would love to go with someone Sunday afternoon since it looks like it will be beautiful out!

Welcome to the forum. There are tons of shore spots from the fort snelling up to the dam. If you are fishing up near the U, the areas around Boom Island can hold fish.

Look for current seams near the shorelines. Rocky shorelines with current are going to hold all the species.

We’re getting to that time of year where almost anything works…light jigs with bait, crankbaits, swim baits, etc. Personally, I’d start with live bait because you’ll catch everything and that will get you acquainted with the river. The hardest part when you first fish is matching the bait size and weight to the current.

With the nice weather the shorelines will be kinda packed in the more community spots by Hidden Falls and Minnehaha park. Try be find areas away from the crowd if you can. Dusk and night are the best times. You’d be surprised how shallow the walleyes will be after dark.

    Good luck.

+1 for the Crush City Mayor. I’m hoping they come out with a 5″ or 6″ version soon!

There’s also another swim bait I like that is long and skinny(not storm 360 searchbait, these were cheaper) but I can’t remember which it was. Did really well for all sizes on p2 with it in the mid-late fall in white.

Not sure if it was Monday’s downpour dirtying up the water, or if someone hid a banana in my boat but I struggled last night.

I was marking fish, and had a couple missed bites but no hook ups. Had me scratching my head, that’s for sure. Maybe it was tough for them to find the bait with dirty water?

I found a wad of shad in some semi dirty water that they were firing off on last Sunday but they still weren’t biting every cast. My cast angle had to be specific. My deal was a timing thing I guess it depends on maybe where you’re looking at and what for.

Big fan of Keitech FATs swing impact, Puls-Rs for smaller presentations.
