Minnetonka ice situation

Excelsior Bay is open a long ways towards Wayzata with a lot of broken up ice near the town of Excelsior’s shore. Northern bays all ice covered with some ice pulling away from shore. Gray’s Bay is ~80% open with ice in front of the access. With an easterly wind the ice pack could blow west and close off the access and channel to Wayzata Bay.

That is crazy. Meanwhile about 80-100 miles north they were still driving full size trucks out as of last weekend.

Give it about 7-10 days and it will be ice free. April 1 or close to it is my guess.

Yup, open by the 1st for sure, probably within a week. I’d wager next Thursday 3:56 pm.

The Wayzata bay access by the sailing club had open water late into the winter. I wonder if you could get a boat in there now?

    Update from today.
Gray’s Bay all open, access too.
    Wayzata mostly covered.
Smith’s Bay covered and had a strip of open water from Brackett’s Point to the Marina.
Maxwell Bay 40% open, access open. Ice was cracking/pinging.
North Arm, the southern and middle sections were ~30% open with the far north end open. Access open.
Crystal Bay was covered and had a strip of open water from Bohn’s Point to the south shore.
Bay to the west of Fletcher’s was open from county road 19 except for some ice by Fletcher’s.
Excelsior Bay, no change since Wednesday.
All channels I saw were open. Many had ice on either side. Some backwaters opening up.
Most ice is dark and ready to go. It’ll take a big hit tomorrow with the strong wind and will be open some time this week.

Thanks for the update Netguy. There is a good chance of some rain tomorrow there too. That’ll do some more damage.

    Gray’s Bay, open
Wayzata Bay , 60% ice but more large strips of open water. Saw a boat dinking around in some of the busted up ice in the NE corner
    Brown’s Bay, mostly ice
Smith’s Bay, open from Brackett’s Point to Arcola Bridge
Maxwell Bay, open. Three trailers at the access with 2 being tandems, probably bass fishermen lol
Stubb’s Bay open, docks going in.
North Arm Bay, open. Two trailers at the access. Barge heading across to most likely put boat lifts in.
Crystal Bay, open except for some ice in front of the Lafayette Club.
    Lafayette Bay mostly ice covered.
Carmen’s Bay, open with ice in the corner by county road 19.
Excelsior Bay, ~50% open towards the main lake.

Last ice report. I’ll be on the lake tomorrow.

Nice report. Will probably swing by tomorrow with the kids and dogs to test out the new tm battery setup.
