“sTaRt SeEiNg MoToRcYcLeS”… as a biker flies by at 30 over the speed limit zig zagging between lanes.

Seems you should be the one not to judge a entire group because some bad apples. Most motorcycle guys are great and safe riders, a few ruin it but that’s everywhere. The majority of bikers i see are all great riders. The few I see being dumb and aggressive are just that, bad apples.

The same A Hole guy that stops in the merging lane because everyone else is doing what they are supposed to do, drive up to the merge sign and then zipper merge. He thinks cars driving by him in the other lane and gets mad. This same guy will close the gap on a motorcycle and cause a crash.

Sounds dangerous and like cutting in line.

    and like cutting in line.

Technically that’s exactly what it is at a traffic light. But it’s legal in some states already too.

If I had a bike I’d probably do it.

I have no reason to explain anything, I won’t be doing it and I didn’t pass the law. I also won’t sit and complain about it.

awful lot of complaints from you in this thread for someone who said they weren’t going to complain

I would think shoulder driving would be better… I lost my MC endorsement so no threat of me doing it. Most freeways have a nice shoulder on both sides. I would think someone opening a door or cutting over on purpose, with all the dash cams out there these days, you could potentially be charged with causing an accident or god forbid, as much as vehicular manslaughter, if you do it on purpose to mess with them. crazy doah chased

If riders and drivers follow the rules of the law, it’ll probably work out fine at that low of speed. Spent some time in L.A. 25 years ago and saw a lot of it. Not sure if there was a limit on speed, but they seemed to be doing it at a lot more than 25 mph.

Idk I guess I can kind of see where it would be ok in some situations, but like others I can see quite a few more accidents and road rage incidents happening because of it.

I sure as heck wouldn’t be driving between two cars on a bike with all the complete morons on the road… that’s me.

IMO a large number of people who drive cars and trucks everywhere should be on bikes. Our roads are too crowded and we can’t afford to maintain them. Most people drive around getting 20mpg with 3+ empty seats in their vehicle. It’s pretty dumb if you really think about it.

Most people I see driving shouldnt be driving a car let alone a motorcycle.

I ride and have for a long time now. I absolutely hate lane splitters. They come up too fast, they aren’t always easy to see. I also don’t like the shoulder guys when traffic is backed up. I’ve seen a lot of fights from guys either hitting a vehicle or going off on a driver for trying to change lanes while they’re splitting. I don’t ride the city a lot because of traffic, I know it’s barrel season here so slowdowns are part of it.

I think you just proved that the bikers won’t be going the speed they should be. This isn’t a motorcyclists are bad post. And the realistically the majority of bikers will probably follow it within the rules. THE PROBLEM will be all the idiots driving cars and trucks that will have no clue they can split lanes and will merge into them and boom, dead motorcyclist.

I’m really tired of politicians and the public still thinking people follow the laws around here.

Hard to think motorcycles are a plausible solution in our climate. Maybe half the year, but not much more than that. Then you’re looking at duplicate insurance, maintenance and storage costs of owning both a motorcycle and a vehicle

so we’re comparing recreational vehicles to transportation necessary for daily life? got it.

do you drive your boat thru rush hour traffic to work?

I was pointing out that your reasoning for not having a motorcycle was flawed. But you already know that.

did you happen to miss the post I was responding to? dirtywater was saying how most people shouldn’t be driving cars, they should be driving motorcycles instead. I pointed out how that just doesn’t work for over half the year in MN. do you disagree? or do you think its plausible for someone to get rid of their car/truck/suv and replace it with a bike yearround in MN?

are you also saying people should drive their boat or motorhome to work?

I really wasn’t making a MN-specific statement when I said that. Obviously motorcycles are not a solution as a year-round exclusive mode of transport in the upper Midwest. But if you buy the right tool for the job, motorcycles are fairly cheap. And if you live and work in an in urban area, the money you’d save on gas and parking if you ride 5 months a year would have you singing a different tune on the expense.
