I’m looking at a pair of Kamik Helsinki Pac Boots and was wondering if anyone has used these and have any insight on them. The -100 degree rating and 1000 denier construction is attractive, but not if the boots are junk. Let me know your thoughts guys, thanks.

I’ve always thought of Kamik as more of a bargain brand. Haven’t seen their colder weather stuff though.

Great timing as I almost walk out with a pair every time I go to L&M Fleet. One thing I like is that they are not too heavy. Most pac boots under $200 are made in China anyway. Both of my kids have rocked several pair and I really don’t see much difference from Sorel etc. I’m interested to hear what others have to say.

Cabelas has them at a fair price right now, that’s why I’m asking.

I can’t take any boot with a -100 rating seriously and it makes me suspicious of the company. It just makes me wonder if the person who came up with this concept has ever been outside in any temp below 0.

LaCrosse, Cabelas Saskatchewan or Trans Alaska, that’s where I’d look if you’re looking for serious cold weather boots.

Can’t say I disagree with Grouse, -100 is a pretty bold statement. That being said, three of my kids are currently outgrowing their second set of Kamiks. Waterproof(as anything CAN be with kids-how DO they do that?), and they haven’t complained about cold feet while out chasing tip-ups all day with me. Durability-wise, I’ve been fairly impressed. To be fair, these are boots on kids and I haven’t worn them myself so hopefully someone on here has and has some front line feedback???

Maybe I’ll just have to spend the points and give the review myself. My 1950’s or so bunny boots are finally nearing their end and a less bulky boot is appealing if it’s warm enough.

My tennis shoes are -100 rated for 60 seconds.

Funny that was brought up. I just saw boots marketed for -100. That’s like a car rated to go 1000 mph.

    Kamik boots

That is -100C according to Cabelas website. I did try on a pair of these at Cabelas and they felt very comfortable and warm. If they are still around when my Pac boots take a dive

Try checking out the Baffin Apex. Super light and warm. I bought a pair two years ago. Best/warmest boot I have ever had. I see Cabelas has them on sale right now.

That’s even funnier. -100 C = -148 F. Yikes! That’s a little nippy. I don’t think I’d want to sign up for the field testing required to back up that rating.

But hey, James, this might make a good IDO segment, though. Next on IDO, we’ll be putting Calvin Svihel in the freezer to test Kamik boots at -148 F. Calvin will tell us once and for all if these boots can cut the mustard for your next ice fishing adventure. Put your fur-lined skivvies on, drop a couple of hand warmers down the front, and then join us after this message…

Please do not give James any more ideas……!

Don’t be such a worry wart. You’ll be wearing boots rated for that temperature. Besides, according to my USAF survival manual, at -60 degrees, a properly clothed human can survive for up to 30 minutes with only moderate tissue damage.

You won’t be in the freezer for much longer than that. Probably. I mean unless the segment requires 2 or 3 takes.

I just looked up the Baffin Apex and its rating is also -148F. Cal can wear one of each boot and see which one is truer!

    @jamesholst
, I like where this is going. We need real-world equipment testing.
