The last day I went ice fishing last year my recoil rope broke inside the recoil housing. I’ve taken the recoil assembly apart but I have no idea how the rope is supposed to go. Does anybody have a diagram or any info?

I would just order the hole recoil from Eskimo Eskimo Parts Breakdown Then when you receive the new one, you can match how the rope go’s. And you will have a Back-up, for $25.00

Yeah i’m thinking I might do that. After searching the web i’ve found out that they have had past recoil issues so a spare would be a good idea. Ice is coming so I’m getting ready!

I WOULDNT WORRY ABOUT FIXING IT UNTILL YOU REALLY NEED IT…. LIKE WHEN YOU INVITE THE GANG TO GO FISHING AND YOURE THE ONLY ONE WITH AN AUGER AND YOU FORGOT THAT THE RECOIL BROKE AND YOUR ON THE ICE.

I had problems with this recoil. The Ardisam site no longer had any parts for this vintage. The Tecumseh motor is a TC300. There are parts and diagrams available online. That plastic “dog” wore out after 2 years on ours. It would “skip” for 2 or 3 pulls and then would catch once. We had used it for an additional 7 years with it working like this, but I never completely trusted the auger because of it.

Last night I replaced the recoil with the updated one from Tecumseh. This has 2 metal “dogs” that drive on the cast flywheel and a new pulley core. The flywheel is not threaded from the factory. The bolts are 6mm 1.0 threads. The aluminum flywheel tapped easily. The other modification that was required was cutting the metal cap that sits below the recoil pulley. I cut this down with and aviation snips so that it did not block the dogs from engagement. The metal piece would bind the pulley so I shimmed the metal cap with a 1/4″ lock washer. The pulley could be champhered prior to instillation and this would not be necessary. I would recommend not taking out the recoil spring. If the spring looks good and stays in the housing then use it.

The new recoil has a good sturdy feel and works very well with no “Skipping” like the plastic “dog”.
