Hauling Yetti

Does anyone use a weight distribution hitch on their YETTI? I was told at the dealership it’s not possible. I noticed body roll in the truck at 50 mph, obviously something has to be done. I was told that helper spacers or springs are also an option. The YETTI dealer didn’t know the tongue weight or trailer weight, telling me I only need a 2” ball. Any recommendations would be much appreciated. Thanks much.

    What size Yetti?

Wife and I purchased a 21ft Angler fully kitted our this fall. I had it on a scale and it was about 4800lbs. Hauling with a 1/2 ton pickup. Added airbags ahead of time with some advice from a friend. Tows pretty darn well for its size. I mean, you know it’s back there, but what can you expect dragging a 8×21 box down the highway.

Edit- only slightly matters, but which dealer did you buy it from? The lack of service/help seems kinda shocking based on my experience from talking to numerous ones this summer. I’ve also been in contact with Yetti with a few questions and they’ve been awesome in responding/helping.

My advice then is to to just call Yetti directly for an answer. Or, Facebook message them. As much as I despise FB, that’s what I did out of convenience one night. They replied the next morning.

    Good luck!

Tires. Airbags. Year and brand of truck would help. 1/2 or 3/4 ton?

Firestone Ride-Rite bags will help out a ton. I have them in my F-150 and it pulls my Yetti great. It’s only 12’…but I built it with some incredible tongue weight being it’s a toy hauler and I use it as such.

If you don’t want to use bags, the least you could do is ensure the trailer is level when towing. Won’t alleviate the body roll, but it could help a tad.

Anyone have an opinion on Timbrens and/or super springs (helper springs) for this purpose? I don’t really want to deal with airbags.

Its an Infinity QX56. We had airbags but they were not working so went with Strutmaster shocks.

The problem with them is they aren’t adjustable. You’re simply hoping the spring will level out your truck after hooking up. There really isn’t much maintenance or upkeep with airbags. Ensure you’re at minimum PSI when unloaded and fill to your liking when loaded. Are Timbrens better than nothing? Yes, but that’s about it.

That changes it a bit…There has to be a way to make a WDH work with the house…Call Yetti directly, they have been a big help for me in the 8 years I’ve had my house.

Make sure your tires are rated for strong enough sidewalls.

The issue lies in your wheel base length BUT the biggest factor is the Independent rear suspension. Im in a similar situation.

Ive got a 04 f150 and 13 Toyota Sequoia. Night and day difference towing an 8×16 Yetti. (single axle). Ive also got a tandem axle enclosed 7×16 trailer that tows better with both vehicles being its a tandem.

What I’ve noticed towing with the sequoia, which is also independent rear…
    – Had a lot of roll and loose rear end when getting side wind.
    – Went load range E tires with stiffer side walls, helped some but not the fix.
    – installed air bags in rear end, again helped some but not the fix.
    – Made sure trailer was towing level and not high in the nose, helped some but not the fix.

Ive pretty much given up making any changes to the situation and just live with it.
When vehicles pass me it is a total pain in the A$$, when the nose of a vehicle gets even with the V of my fish house, the air the other vehicle is pushing hits the V and pushes the V away. BUT the trailer nose getting pushed away causes the nose of my sequoia to be then pushed toward the passing vehicle…
This does not happen when towing with my truck sold rear axle and longer wheelbase, nor is it as bad in the sequoia towing the tandem enclosed trailer.

IMHO, your (and mine) vehicle is not made to tow even thought the specs say they can tow the weight… Also, I don’t thing the tongue of the yetti is designed for an equalizer hitch, and the different stresses they cause on the tongue of the trailer.
