GM 6.2 liter recall – 2021-2024

I heard some of the new Tundras have a transmission recall as well. My last work truck was a 2021 F150, and it was plagued by electrical issues, two 4 wheel drive actuators failures, a display replacement, intermittent power steering after the it would restart at a stop sign, paint peeling off the hood, etc. My new work truck is a 2024 Chevy 1500 and it had a bad exhaust actuator(stuck in sport mode) when I picked it up, a back up camera has failed, and I guess will likely be going in for an engine inspection. My personal truck a 2019 chevy has been good but it’s likely only a matter of time.

All these brands have problems. Pick the truck you like and cross your fingers they live.

Having my 99 GMC 2500 that I have had for 18yrs restored is sounding better all the time. rotflol Besides the usual rust it has been a great truck. I’ve been looking at replacing my f-150 due to lots of issues but it seems like it’s all a crap shoot if you get a good truck or not and it’s paid for.

Go to the Toyota forums. Lots of complaints and issues on tundras both v8 and the new turbo. The 23/24s had a bad recall and replaced 100,00 motors or something like that. All brands have issues, chevy just sits at the top of the list. I’m currently shopping new trucks and I think I’m going back to ford.

Not many complaints or issues w v8 tundras. Maybe fuel economy or old school tech.

Truth. The 5.7 iForce was almost bulletproof.

I have a 2000 Silverado, 2nd truck for plowing, going to landfill, etc, more time goes on I wonder if I won’t end up using it as my main truck again.

My 2019 6.2 with 127K is doing fine.
My old 2013 6.2 is also driven almost daily but that one doesn’t have AFM.

I believe in 20 or 21 they went to a different fuel management in the 6.2 called DFM. There are like 17 different engine functions that include going down to 1 cylinder.

2019 is When they came out with the new style is when they switched to DFM. Its been light years better than AFM.

Until about 2019 they were great, besides breaking valve springs and leaking cam towers. After that the truck started having issues. The 5.7 is a great motor but it still had its issues.

If there is any data showing ford, chevy or ram having better reliability than toyota, I’d love to see it.

Who said that ? I was stating they still have issues just like any vehicle. I didn’t bash on Toyota. I just stating simple facts, they are easy to find on the internet. If you like to talk motors, I’ll talk motors all day long. Toyota made a great rig for a long time. But reliability wasn’t a thing before the mid 2000s. Frame rot killed them for many years. Until 2010. I’d love to buy a older Tacoma for a ice rig, but they are all rotted or way priced high. I’m interested to see what the new Toyotas do with the v6 turbos

Is the one cylinder when it’s being towed? rotflol

Too soon Netguy! LOL When I first learned DFM did that I was like WTF for and when? Must be during idling or perhaps with that stop start feature engaged which is annoying AF! I remember the first and only time I forgot to turn that off. I was sitting at a light and it turns green. I stop on it and the whole truck just SLAMMED. I was like holy hell what just happened. Then I realized I forgot to turn that off. Dumbest thing ever to save a couple ounces of gas maybe.

Bought a 2016 Tundra ( searched for that year as I found the best reviews w least problems on that year) with the 5.7 in August.
    No turbo or anything special.
13.5 MPG pulling the boat. Mileage is tough to stomach
Bought it with 61,000 miles – have put 11,000 on it to date and love it so far. Body in awesome shape. It’s a 1794 so fair amount of goodies that can potentially break but….
My 2010 F150 ate over $8,800 of my money the previous 8 months so probably not going back to that model.
Every vehicle has issues I get it. I just keep em clean and maintained and hope for the best.
A colleague has a 21 Chev and has already had the engine rebuilt.

That doesn’t sound bad to me, I get 12-13 towing my boat in my Ford 5.0. 16-17 on the highway unloaded is a little tougher to stomach. The Toyota 5.7 is obviously one of the most reliable truck engines of the last 20 years, but they are definitely having issues with their new 3.4 V6.

If I were buying a new truck today it would be the Ford 2.7 or 5.0, and the Ram 5.7 would be higher on my list than anything from GM or Toyota.

Did realize the tundra 5.7 got the same milage a 3500 gasser gets.

It’s bad, very bad. I know guys with the new 6.6 getting over 20 unloaded in a 1 ton.

    It’s tough.
My mechanic told me I’ll pay more for gas but less for repairs. Uh huh……
    Time will tell i Guess.
Didn’t buy it for the mileage though – don’t drink, smoke or gamble so I guess my vice is gasoline shock

I like getting better gas mileage the same as everyone else but at what cost? My f-150 averages 17-18mpg and I have got as high as 21mpg. My 99 GMC 2500 6.0 gets about 11mpg but I am at about $14k in repair costs in 2.5yrs including a new motor with the ford(all covered by warranty) and I bet I’m nowhere close to that in 18yrs with my GMC including maintenance stuff. Not that the older stuff didn’t have issues it just seems I hear more and more about the newer trucks. If I had to pick a current vehicle of mine to make a cross country trip my f-150 which is the newest and lowest mileage vehicle I have would be last in that list because of reliability.

3.5eco boost. It’s a nice truck just lots of issues in the 20k miles we have put on it. Maybe we got someone’s lemon lol.

We have been looking at different trucks and my mechanic said get the 5.0 if you stay with ford. I called on one with 50k miles and the salesman told me the motor had a tick and was in the shop getting looked at.

I’d like to know how they’re driving. Best I get is 17ish on a leisurely highway cruise. Usually 15-16 unloaded. 12ish towing depending on wind. Not complaining, just would do backflips if I saw 20. Just glad I finally have a fairly simple V8 without AFM, DFM, PFM, turbos, or any of that. Came from an 3.5 ecoboost that I liked until the cam phasers went out at 110k.

I’ll keep my 4.6 Toyota lol.

Other than the frame rot that will happen eventually.

Well, he is retired and certainly never in a hurry. He told me about it on his first trip to their cabin in Longville from Avon. Its all 2 lane road so likely going under 60 the whole time. IDK if he has towed anything with it yet. I know 2 other guys with a 2500 same engine and they get good mileage too, but not over 20. They get in the teens which is to be expected for mix of driving I would think. The 6.6 is nowhere near as bad on gas as the 6.0 was that is for sure.

Fluid Film is your friend. I have done my entire truck 2 times in the first 2 years and this year it will get done again. My 2020 will last a lot of years and the 5.7 will get it done.
