Thanks for sharing! Typically when these come out they have already sent notifications and I haven’t gotten anything yet. Will be keeping an eye out for it though

GM’s best platform was the 6.2, and now that’s got issues too.

Ford and Ram are all I will consider when I pick up my next truck

Yeah ford and dodge never have recalls. rotflol
I can’t think of a make or model of any vehicle that doesn’t have recalls.

CaptainMusky, I was thinking of you when I posted it because I remembered you had a 6.2.

“Vehicles that pass inspection will receive an engine oil and filter change, this time using high-viscosity 0W-40 Mobil 1 Supercar oil. The owner’s manual for L87-equipped trucks calls for 0W-20 oil. The oil fill cap will also be replaced (to reflect the new oil type).” Supercar oil. shock

They all do, but GM has been a pack leader in unreliability dating back to the earliest 5.3 issues.

Ford and Ram are just ahead of GM and the latest 6.2 issue isn’t helping

General Motor’s head of global manufacturing resigned last week.
    Weird.

Its great entertainment reading first hand stories from GM factory workers.

“I wonder why JPC is stepping down? Seriously though the fall should be on CB.

As someone who worked at an engine plant I’ll say I watched them put out 30,000,000$ worth of defective castings that were cut wrong and had excess debris inside of them from bad quality control.

It was swept under the rug and they didn’t catch it until after running a brand new process for 10 months.

These engines made it into customers cars. It’s over 50mil in losses. No one even batted an eye. No quality alert sent to customers.

There has been zero accountability at the origin of the defect. No change in process. No change in quality control.

I’ve watched plants run at a negative 100k balance and be threatened over the smallest red in the budget. But this place can waste and destroy gm’s name and no one seems to care..”

The 6.2 has been an issue since it’s inception. It’s never been and never will be “GM’s Best”
Maybe the most powerful, until it blows up.
GM has been on a down hill slide with their engines since 2007.

The earliest 5.3’s are some of the most reliable engines ever made regardless of brand

I may have missed it in the linked recall info, but apparently there is a stop sale as well. Besides myself, I personally know quite a few guys with “affected” vehicles in this recall and none of us have had any problems SO FAR.
I wonder if it matters where the engine was produced? Some are built in the US while others are built in Mexico. My truck and engine were both built in the US.

Heads up, don’t bother calling a dealer until you receive the ” official ” recall letter notice from GM, the dealer will not schedule an appointment to inspect until those letters are sent … at least that is what I have been told when I attempted to schedule an inspection this morning with my local dealership

I have a fleet 22 Silverado 1500 . Oil changes every 5k miles. It’s just over 100k. Pulled the dipstick on the last oil change – no oil on it . A co workers add oil lights been on twice … 5.3 liter . On our team of about 12 we are down 3 from transmission issues . The transmissions don’t grenade but it’s some valve body .

Agreed. If time would have stood still my 2001 Silverado was easily one of the best trucks I owned. Reliability has been steadily backwards ever since.

If history tells us anything, bankruptcy doesn’t impact the automakers at all. They’ll get bailed out and not blink.

I wouldnt worry too much about any company going bankrupt either. Far too much money involved. You might see brands divested or shut down like what GM did with Olds, Hummer, Pontiac, Saab, etc. I really doubt they would completely shutter. That would be a tremendous failure in so many ways.

Hard to argue against a toyota given the plethora of persistent issues the big 3 have going on. Seems like with the big 3, if its not one thing, its another. This is coming from a current Chevy and former Ford guy. The couple people I know with Rams have been plagued with issues also.

Quite annoying that pretty much all of them make crap these days and charge a criminal amount for that polished turd.

This is what I was thinking too, are there issues with Toyota I’m unaware of? New Tundra’s are pretty reasonably priced too. Unless my current Ram makes it another 3-5 years, and the new Ram engine proves to be a workhorse like the 5.7 Hemi, I was planning on moving to a Tundra.

Go to the Toyota forums. Lots of complaints and issues on tundras both v8 and the new turbo. The 23/24s had a bad recall and replaced 100,00 motors or something like that. All brands have issues, chevy just sits at the top of the list. I’m currently shopping new trucks and I think I’m going back to ford.

Both the new Rams and Tundras are using turbo V6 engines.

Just hit 300k on my Tundra, next one will be a 2018-2022 5.7L. Not sure I like the look of the new Tundra or have heard good things about the twin turbo’s.

I have this recall in my hand and it says this recall is performed on vehicles in dealer inventory only.

That’s the instructions to the dealers to perform on the new unsold models on their lots. To do the inspection and if they pass, they can sell them… if not, they wait for the remedy.

Not many complaints or issues w v8 tundras. Maybe fuel economy or old school tech.

Until about 2019 they were great, besides breaking valve springs and leaking cam towers. After that the truck started having issues. The 5.7 is a great motor but it still had its issues.
