I had to do some googling to figure out what HSO even was, but once I figured it out, I was not impressed. I did come up with some more appropriate names for the site. Some of them even used the same three letters, but if I posted them here, I would probably get the boot. I made myself laugh though, so it was worth the visit over there.

To me that site feels more like a good old boys club. Lots of guys over there like to pat each other on the back. I used to go there and one other site almost as much as IDO, but now it is a rare event. Usually I only go to see reports in one thread about a certain lake and that is about it.

I get that good ol boys, back patting feel over there too. It’s like that on most every site in some form though. The thing that bugs me is that they can be very hypocritical. And they don’t always practice what they preach. I’ve been put in timeout a couple times while others, the good ol boys, say and do the same things. I guess the rules don’t apply to “pro staff”, or “administrators”. In any case life is too short to get worked up over stupid things. I just read what I want and laugh at the rest and am thankful that there are other places, IDO, where a guy can go to get good info.

FWIW I’ll probably get kicked off of there now for posting this here. LOL If so –> That was kind of cathartic. As Dr. Johnny Fever said “Booger”.

    Enlighten me. What is HSO?

It’s a collection of a couple thousand morons who don’t know how to use the search function.

Seriously, how many times can someone post a thread “Which is better, Vexilar or MarCum”.

So here’s an opinion from the dark side. Not that anyone cares what I think, but since I see all this poo being flung, I have to at least toss back a cowpie or two.

I personally know a lot of disgruntled members from (insert outdoors website here). It happens everywhere with every site, yes including this one. What people don’t realize is how small the circle is. HSO started out as a Yahoo group (I believe) as Fishing Minnesota and then shortly there after became a full fledged website in which a lot of folks around the web (now with their own sites) started out as staff, including Mr. Holst.

Are there shady tactics or underhanded maneuvers in this industry? You better believe it, and man is it sad to see. Bottom line though is that $ will always talk and BeeEss will always walk, and just like in real life you run into some good folks and some not so good folks. I’m happy to say that I have some good friends who call different websites their home (HSO, IDO, LSF, AI, TB, RO, CG) and I visit them all because I’m a fishing junky.

All I know is that some of the most memorable fishing trips and gaining some very close friends have happened as a direct result of stumbling upon a few of the good folks involved with these websites, and to me that is all that matters.

As for all the other poo that gets flung back and forth, well there is a reason that hearsay isn’t admissible in court. And even though I might be an admin for “the hated site” I’d still LOVE to go fishing on Rainy Lake with James and Chris some day.

We walk upon this Earth a very short time….why not make the most of it?

For the record, you’re the last person the “moron” comment was directed toward. It’s the guys in the general fishing forums that get tiresome by asking the same questions over and over and over and over . . .

I visit that site and get some good info on one of the lakes I like to read about. DTro is correct, there are some really good guys there, but there seems to be more people who fly in for a post or two want some info quick, and don’t bother to pay back by posting again. Not that we don’t have that here, but it is at a much less frequency.

I know on a couple of occasions I ruffled some feathers on HSO, making a couple of tongue in cheek comments. No sense of humor over there what so ever. The good old boys banded together and proceeded to sling all sorts of ugliness my way. I may be known now as a pot stirrer over there. They even pulled my avatar. That’s not right

I’d like to pull your avatar! Hiyo.

That’s why I like it hear. At least I am tolerated.

That’s what my wife said to me last night.

Do you two have something going on that was supposed to stay on PM’s?

That’s exactly what I’m talking about. Some of the guys, mainly a couple of the moderators, wear their britches way too tight. Dtro isn’t one of them btw. I don’t know any of the inside info regarding integrity that has been alluded too, and don’t really care. It’s not my business just being a guy who posts. In any case it’s great to have different places to trade info, share pictures and just talk about the outdoors with other people.

    A little tidbit . . .
Amongst those who’ve made the rounds of the Outdoors Internet Sites since the days of dial up, HSO is what was orginally known as FM (named for an outdoor activity + a state).
Many now refer to FM as ‘eff ’em

by the way, I used to post on something called fish the lake; whatever happened to that site?

Well I guess I deserved a PM considering my outspoken and offensive post, but maybe I should feel privileged in knowing that I made BK puke on his shirt.

There’s integrity with a capital I for ya right there.

Complain about the competition all you want. IDO should have secured alternate domains. I don’t even agree with many of the methods that Rick uses on his site. But this one is brilliant on his part in my opinion. Call it sleazy, call it bad marketing, but the fact of the matter is he made a smart move.

You can’t fix stupid. Therefore you cant fix IDO’s mistake.
