Hey guys my buddy and myself are thinking of taking his old 12′ camper trailer and convert into a ice fishing house. We want to take the wheels, which are under the camper and have a built in wheel well inside the camper, and make them into a crank down to the ice wheel system.

Looking for ideas and or suppliers of parts that we will need to accomplish this.

    Thanks!

Go for it. I converted a 14 footer last year. I got a 12″ diameter pvc pipe from menards. Cut to length, i slide the pvc pipe thru the floor to the ice. No need for a fancy wheel system then. It keeps the wind out real nice. I made covers on hinges for the holes in the floor. At the end of the day i pull up the pvc pipes, close cover and set pipe on top of cover. You don’t want to leave them down overnight, real bear to remove when froze in. Don’t drill hole with them down either, you’ll end up with water and ice all over the floor. I use a spud to chip them out with at the end of the day. A couple chips and they are free. I even put a pedestal boat seat in my shack. Possibilities are endless. Well worth the effort to have a comfortable place to fish, and i can pull it with my wheeler too.

Tried them but they want over $750 just for starters.

    Anyone else have any suggestions?

    Thanks!

If your going to use a camper I personally would just look into sleeving the holes and not investing in a drop axle because your going to invest a lot more money then you are expecting vs buying a shelled one in the off season. Spend the money on decking the inside out how you want it and enjoy. Make sure anything you do in the inside can be removed and be put into a drop axle house later down the road. I went form a built 8×12 runner house to a 8×12 insulated garage door panel house on a trailer to finally a bare ice castle and built the inside how I wanted it. learned a lot with the first to houses on how to customize it to what I like
