John Force seriously injured in Funny car crash

Drag racing’s biggest star, 14-time champion John Force, was alert and conscious after suffering two broken legs and a broken arm in a nasty top-end collision Sunday with fellow straight-line legend Kenny Bernstein in the second round of eliminations at the O’Reilly NHRA Fall Nationals at Texas Motorplex outisde of Dallas. Force has been airlifted to Baylor University Medical Center in Dallas for further treatment. Their Funny Cars got together just as they crossed the finish line with Bernstein drifting over into Force’s lane after clipping the final timing cone. The numbers, although unofficial, showed Force crossing with a 4.863 at 315.34 mph to Bernstein’s 4.904 at 312.06 mph.

Bernstein was not injured in the incident, but Force was transported by LifeFlight Helicopter to Baylor for further evaluation.

John has a great attitude. Even when he loses, he still gives positive remarks. Hope his recovery goes well.

Now they have a video clip on nhra.com. Don’t know how to create a link to it. Maybe somebody else will do it. Looks like John veered into Kenny at about a 45 degree angle and the bodies exploded into pieces. John’s car a was cut in half. Pretty bad injuries.

I saw John at his restaurant, RACE ROCK, several years ago. He sure is a bundle of energy and laughs.

He’s lucky to have not been hurt worse! I too have long been a fan of John Force so I’m glad things are looking okay……. as far as vitals and other important stuff like that. As for his injuries, he’ll be a long time healing and it’ll be interesting to see if he’ll retire from this. I hope not but you know a guy’s gotta think about it after a nasty crash like that!

I was watching the race on espn and saw the crash and the many replays from several different angles. Johns car broke in two even before he swerved and hit kenny’s car. If you watch the replay closely you can see the back half of John’s car with john still in it on the top right of your screen, totally scary After all that has happened to his team this year you really have to wonder whether he will continue. A mere mortal would just give it up but i have never thought of him as a mere mortal

I did watch his show a few times, I thought it sucked. He was good, but his dauthers (althought cute) came across as spoiled little bitches. I know it’s TV and tere is to be some of that, to me they did not appear to have to act real hard at being that spoiled.

I hope things go well for him.

looking at the video it looks to me that it was a good thing that Kenny was there between him and the wall, or they might be planing for a loss rather than a recovery.

Reminds me of the angle that #3 hit the wall a few years back, if Kenny would have not soften the blow
