Boat Radio Not Working – Where to Start?

I’ll admit, I’m not the most handy person so I generally need some initial direction on even the more basic tasks. That being said…..

My boat stereo went from working fine one outing to not working at all on the next. I did not tinker with it much on the water last time out. I did remove the face plate and made sure that was connected properly. My power supply was turned on and all my other electrical devices from depth finder to lights to speed and RPM gauges, just fine.

What are my next things to check? I’m assuming I’ll have to get under there and check wiring hookups, fuses, etc.

    Any advice is appreciated.

    Thanks,

    Eric

I would try the fuses first. There might be a inline fuse in the wiring too. It could be anywhere between the radio and the battery. If these look good then I would move on and trace out the wiring.

Make sure you check the grounds too.

Fuses are easy to check and a good place to start…but I’m going to bet a quarter that it’s a ground.

If you have a vom or one of those lights for checking power…check the red power lead. If you have power going to the units…it’s a bad ground connection.
