Based on my other post I came up with a New Question.

If buying a New Color System which system woudl be best. High/ Mid Range and Low.

    Thanks for any help

Would love to hear comments as well. I’m not sold on the 5″ split screen on most of the new combos and constantly having to push buttons to alternate between bottom and adding markers, etc….. Still wonder if it’s better to have separate units or spend the big bucks for the larger screen size. Has to work for LOW, Pond and Lake Michigan.

If gas goes any higher this summer, I’ll be fishing in the nearest storm sewer .

The Lowrance LMS-520C or the Humminbird 787C2 in that $600 range.

The Lowrance LCX-27C closer to a grand, and you can go up from there (LCX series).

One factor to consider in your selection process is the mapping options. Lowrance can run Navionics and/or Lakemaster maps. Humminbird can run Navionics but not Lakemaster. Consider your mapping options before you buy.

You could go with 2 5-inch units, like the Lowrance x510C and the Lowrance Globalmap 5200C. A lot of folks go that route. You can get both units for under $1000 total (about the price of one 7-inch combo unit). It really depends on how much room you have on your boat for rigging these units, and personal preference. Also, guys who do a lot of recording like the larger combo units, like the LCX-27C so they can record GPS and sonar data at the same time.

I’ll agree that spitting a 5-inch screen is not ideal, but that is the only option for some people, due to budget restraints. The good thing is that there are so many options now that everyone should be able to find a sonar/GPS setup that works for them and fits their budget.

Good point -I’d have to mount one unit on each console or hang one over the edge in my rig. Always hear positive things re: color vs gray scale ….. someday.(Kinda like when the Rodents will beat the Hogeyes and bring Floyd home again).

I guess for me its not the budget as much as what makes sense. I have a great boat a 192 Tournament and love it. It is just that my 320 went to heck all ofd a sudden. The GPS portion no longer works. The 510 is only 100 cheaper so why not just go more. Just can not get my self to spend the big bucks. I thought the 520 and others such as that could export your way points to a Handheld via a SD chip. Am I wrong?
